Is this weird or is it me?

  • in my mum's house the airing cupboard is in the 2nd bedroom, maybe the mum in the OP wanted a fresh towel or something?

But if your guest (I'm presuming she knew he was there!) may have been in the bedroom surely, surely, you'd knock? Surely!

Edit: I've just seen that you were both staying. She could have caught the pair of you at it :p and still marched in! Lawks.

if it was the spare room, then I'd think its more likely that the mum just didn't think to knock.

maybe she just forgot - or, in the OPs situation, as it was afternoon, maybe she didn't think he'd be naked?

Each to their own, I live on my own and no one sees me naked, as you said, she knocked on the door, thought he was getting dressed, maybe she thought he actually was fully clothed, a mistake but not the end of the world.

Don't think Dad ever saw me naked after childhood, but Mum does all the time when she stays with us as I don't tend to wear clothes around the house. When DH's grandmother was alive, we both used to get in the shower with her to help with mobility issues - not really an issue for us. I remember an elderly friend telling me she and her husband had never seen each other naked in 50 years of marriage - now I find that weird.

Even when cooking? Don't you get cold?

My friend used to share a flat with another girl, & a Carribean lady who apparently used to make large pots of food with her baps out, apparently the oil would be spraying everywhere & they were terrified she'd burn herself in a delicate place one day!

Op - yes I find that weird. If any thing knock first!

No, she wanted to ask him something and knew he was getting up and dressed (afternoon snooze).

We were staying with his parents for weekend so it was their spare bedroom, so maybe she just didn't think. she didn't actually catch him naked but just marched straight in and I was a bit shocked that she could have. He didn't see anything odd with that.

My son used to see me naked, and vice versa, but it sort of dropped off naturally as he got older and stopped when he was about 10 or 11 and not a little boy anymore, so I'm not that prudish, just found lack of boundaries/privacy a bit strange!

So he was not caught naked? Just that mum did not knock?

Man in 50s doesn't mind his mum just walking into bedroom without knocking, and seeing him naked.

But he says she used to change his nappies, so who cares.

He has changed and developed a bit since nappy days though hasn't he. I am with you on the  response.

I was encouraged from a young age to bath, dry and dress myself and from that point onwards my parents have not seen me in the nud.

I would be horrified if they just walked in on me when I could be in any state of undress. It is all about setting some normal boundaries and respecting someones privacy.
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

The thing is, the person who was seen in a state of semi undress isnt bothered, so if he isnt, theres not much harm done is there?
