MSE News: Sky takes over O2 and Be broadband: What does this mean for customers?

My transfer from Be Unlimited happened in January. I was paying £14.08 with Be, then due to pay £12.50 with Sky. I wanted to see how good Sky broadband was rather than going for a deal and committing for 12 months.
Not had any problems but decided to move my phone (BT) and broadband to Plusnet anyway due to cost and annoyance with Sky over not being willing to give a decent discount on my TV package, which I've now cancelled and is due to end tomorrow.
I've just called to genuinely get my MAC. First of all he had the idea that I should have been transfered over paying only £5/month. He first offered free line rental with broadband at £7.50/m. On pointing out that I'd also be getting £95 cashback he offered the deal a few seem to have got of free line rental, £75 credit and the final 2 months at £7.50/m. I wasn't going to turn down £15 for the year.Nice to save.0 -
My o2 to Sky migration went through this morning. The line was down for no more than 15 mins. Broadband speed is down to about 4MBps from 8, but that's exactly what they advised it would initially start at.
Only problem is that incoming calls aren't recognised (though I can dial out OK). Callers get a ring tone, but it doesn't ring. I called Sky and they said that incoming calls may not work for up to 24 hours as 'that's the maximum time to port the number'.
This is a new one on me; is this a common issue-I was expecting the full phone service all back up within the hour?No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Today received a letter from Sky telling me that time is running out, and I need to make a decision.
I'm one of those that postponed migration.
Just thinking aloud.
I've not really got anything against Sky, but I do use a router with customised firmware to boost my speed from 4.5 Mbps to 6.3 Mbps.
I'm on a long, but good quality line.
If I end up with a Sky router, I'm going to be potentially losing a chunk of speed.
I recently renewed BT Line Rental Saver.
Thinking of moving to Plusnet, pretty sure that you're not locked into using their router, unless anyone can tell me different, also cashback.
Are Sky still offering the good deals?
Guess I'm going to have to phone them.Move along, nothing to see.0 -

I think it breaches T&C's, but people have reported using wireshark to extract the password you need to use another router. Try the skyuser forum.0 -
Mine was working OK this morning for an hour or so on the original o2 router, so the use of a Sky router isn't compulsory.
If you let them switche you, rather than choosing to migrate, you'll get a much worse deal. I'd never have accepted the offer they made by post, which was nearly 3 times what I'm now paying. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

That's why I said 'potentially'.
I knew that it certainly used to be possible, but didn't know if Sky had tightened things further.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
