MSE News: Sky takes over O2 and Be broadband: What does this mean for customers?

I have to say I'm impressed with Sky.
I was on O2 Broadband and was considering leaving them anyway for another deal with someone else. Phoned up to get my MAC code and got put through to Sky who have effectively given me free line rental (with evening and weekend calls) and free broadband for 12 months!
In practice, it won't work out like that because Sky do not currently offer fibre optic in my area whereas other providers do (this was my reason for wishing to move).
Sky have offered the free broadband deal to keep my custom, knowing that I will be upgrading to fibre optic as soon as it becomes available (I was told about 2-3 months from now as the advisor said they've made the necessary applications to start providing the service). I have clarified the free line rental will remain for the full 12 months though which I'm quite happy with as my landline is effectively only a means to provide my broadband.
The advisor also said that I would still be eligible for an offer on fibre when it comes to upgrading.
Quite a nice deal, I have to say. It does mean I'm a bit late getting my fibre but I have to say that knowing the Sky Hub has the technology to not require an engineer visit is a big plus for when I do get fibre optic.0 -
My sisters line has just been enabled for BT infinity how long does it normally take for Plusnet to offer the same service.?She was moved from O2 to Sky with no warning letter and when she contacted them they said there was nothing they could do. The speeds from Sky are worse than O2 so she definately wishes to move to fibre but Plusnet fibre rather than BT infinity if possible.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0

does anyone know or have asked sky if a previous o2 broadband customer who doesnt take skytalk can upgrade to sky fibre or does that carry the mandatory sky line rental??

Hi All,
I was also with o2 & am in the process of being migrated over to Sky. I've been offered;
Unlimited Broadband
Anytime Calls
Line Rental
for £15 p/m
No mention of credit. I already have Sky TV. Seems like a decent deal to me however how does this compare with deals others have been offered?
Thanks.0 -
I was able to get a better deal with Sky
Unlimited Broadband etc
Free Line Rental
12 Months for £7.50pm (better than i had with o2)
Happy with that - will be moving in a few months and looking at fibre optic in the near future.
I have one question - i was on a monthly rolling line rental with BT
I was moved over on the 17th Feb - will BT charge me full line rental for the remaining month of Feb. ?
(I usually paid on the 6th of each month).0 -

Should be pro-rated I think, or you should at least be in credit.

I got similar to you except I'm paying £15p/m with free Sky hub & should get a free wireless booster when I sign up.
Also pushed for £75 credit so looks like I'm paying £2.50p/m more than you, but I'm happy with that deal.0 -
I migrated over to sky last week.
Free line rental and weekend calls for 12 months
Unlimited broadband free for 12 months plus a free sky hub.0
