If I end up with a Sky router, I'm going to be potentially losing a chunk of speed.
Having recently moved to Sky I'm continuing to use my own third-party (TP-Link) router. For me (also on a long line) the service is somewhat slower than BE though (download speed has dropped by 16%, upload by 48%).

    That's why I said 'potentially'. :)

I knew that it certainly used to be possible, but didn't know if Sky had tightened things further.
If anything, I think things are a bit easier. This link might give you the info you need - it's from Sky and uses a generic username rather than digging for the one on the Sky hub. I assume it doesn't need a password as none is given.

We've been switched over recently and after the training period has finished, we are down to 67% of the speed we used to have with O2. This is with everything the same at our end, including the O2 router, and is mostly down to the fact that the Sky equipment at the exchange doesn't seem to want to use ADSL2+ modulation with our router, so we are stuck with ADSL1 (G.992.1).

I will be speaking with Sky and anticipate they may suggest sending me a Sky router. If they do, one pain will be replicating the various settings from my O2 router on the new Sky router. I have a fair amount of port forwarding settings, and have also set the DHCP to hand out fixed IP addresses to many of the devices on the LAN.

Is there a utility that allows you to transfer this sort of settings from one router to another?

Also, is it possible with the Sky router to set DHCP to always hand out the same IP address to a particular device?

    Yes.

I'm sure someone else will be able to help with your other points.

My speed is up from 4MBps on day one to 6MBps on day two. So Im reasonably confident that I'l get back up to around 8MBps within the training period.

I thought the O2 email accounts were suppoed to drop to 20mb from 1 GB last year, mine is still 1GB?

Speed now levelled out at just over 8Mbps-so the same as I got from o2. No complaints there.

I tried online chat twice this week and both times they said there were no special deals for o2'ers

(prefer online chat as I could hopefully print/paste a copy of it, against sales promising + not delivering and trying to avoid 0844)

The special deals have all come from a "dedicated" sky o2 department in Newcastle reached via the old o2 0800 number, not via online chat.

Least with o2 you could see your contract and adjustments almost immediately.

Stories of their promise not be bound by is putting me off. (also it took months for them to acknowledge I'm not migrating)

This loop business too. If you take your phone across to Sky, is it hard to move elsewhere??
