I have sky tv and have migrated just still with an o2 router.is it correct that if I want a sky router I must pay for it ?

They don't give you a new router when you migrate.

They have used a new router as an additional sweetener to try and persuade me to take a deal, saying these aren't given as a matter of course to o2 migrants.

According to the faq on routers on https://www.sky.com/movetosky we don't need a new router and can carry on using the o2 one after we get switched.
  • After months of procrastination, (My contract was sold by O2 to Sky) I took my Sky Broadband Bill, and My BT phone Bill, and my 02 Mobile, and have gone elsewhere.

Sky were quite half hearted in attempting to retain me as a customer, and I'm going with BT for phone and broadband and Talk Mobile with my mobile because I factored in the 100 quid Sainbury's Voucher, and it works out less over the 12 month contract than Sky were charging me for Broadband alone.

I was an o2 broadband customer paying £7.50 a month just for broadband (with a £5 per month discount as I have a mobile phone with o2).

When the switch to Sky was mooted I like many others rang up to leave and was offered a years broadband for free. That year will expire in March. Is it worth ringing up again requesting to leave after that?

When they write with your proposed migration date, you can ring and tell them you don't want to migrate to Sky. They then stop the proposed migration and put you to the back of the queue for migration so you can take full advantage of the free year. They will though try and persuade you to take a 12 month Sky contract!

(When you migrate, then the old o2 deal no longer applies, and they won't honour it, meaning you pay whatever they ask for, (£7.50 seems the usual price, but it seems to depend on how much you previously paid o2), but no minimum contract, so you can leave with 30 days notice).

You can leave whenever you want to, unless you give in to their persuasion to sign up for a year.

I got the same offer too. Well, the first time I called they only offered me £5 a month BB. So I called them back later and spoke to someone else. I got the anytime calls too - total cost BB, line rental and anytime calls £12.50 & £75.00 credit. Really happy with that.

Does it depend which area you live in, or just whoever is on the phone? (if so I take it you should just put the phone down if someone isn't playing ball). As the offers seem like a bit of a lottery.

I wasn't offered anything like that - so as yet haven't accepted a new contract. I'm still free to chose.

By the way, do Sky have a retentions number? May as well give it a try before I move ship somewhere cheaper. Thanks.

Quick question - Do sky have their own phone lines or do they use the BT ones - and would just take over the "billing" from any other phone company?

spoke to sky three times now each time been offered free line rental just the £7.50 internet cost for 12 months.

Due to sky tv being in the house the internet has to be incorporated into that account. I explained that account isn't in my name and the person whose tv account it is wont want me to combine the bills.

I was told its not possible to have 2 sky accounts in the same property and its tough you will have to have a MAC code and leave.

I highlighted that i have a contract with o2 until may which is free internet and just the £14.99 line rental, i was informed this contract is invalid due to the switchover.

Migration is in 2 weeks and was told i can't stay on 02 that point they will just terminate all services.

    any advice

Just whoever is on the phone and how likely you are to not migrate.

So what happened to your great PlusNet offer?

Best number is the normal O2 0800 number and thinking of leaving. That will get you to the best people at Sky to deal with it.

What happened after you got your migration letter? Once you get that you're automatically moved unless you contact them.

If you go for Sky Line Rental they have their own voice and broadband network.

Seems I was moved to Sky in mid Dec.

Just got a bill from them which has like £7.50 for broadband, +7.50 for not having sky talk/tv minus a £2 welcome discount. £13/mo
Which is exactly the same as what I paid on O2 (expensive - yes, my contract was from 2010).

I haven't signed anything/nor have I been offered some upgrades/early switch. And unlike others, I haven't received anything in the post about the migration specifics. It just happened.

Think they'll try and lock me in for 12 months??

Thing is - the internet now is SUPER slow. Like half the speed (on speedtest.net).
I called them and they are posting out a new router.
Will definitely change if speed doesn't improve...

(and if the speed does improve, I suppose it's too late for any of the deals you guys are getting!! - jealous)

We were also with O2 and got our first direct communication from Sky explaining their direct debit. We contacted the chat help and were told we had just signed up to a 12 month contract. We have not agreed to anything, we relied on O2's assurance that the terms would remain the same. To trap people transferred in the way we were is directly contrary to Ofcom's broadband suppliers' code of conduct.
No normal telephone number, not even a normal email address. Decided to get out as soon as possible. Sent a letter to the Sky subscriptions company providing all the information we have on our "contract" and 40 days notice. Their only response has been by a text saying there is an update to our "help request" on their website that we don't have access to!

It's still on the table. But there are also others like Primer. Plus various cashback sites, so I'm going to see what everyone offers then chose the best one.

Seems a bit of a grey area this - technically I've already moved - so unless calls are being routed through to Sky via 02's number I guess one would have to call Sky directly on one of their non free-phone numbers.
Though it's pointless talking to a 'clerk' as they don't seem to have the authority to negotiate.
