Please, please be careful when buying so called 'Chinese remedies' - my OH investigates these products when they have had serious side effects on users:eek: and a lot of Chinese remedies contain ingredients that we would only be prescribed in very small doses by a GP - there is no control over what these items contain and some have caused serious problems for those that have used them! Best just to go the GP or Pharmacist for their advice.

    Happy holidays!!!!!
There's this Chinese stuff called Pak Fah Yeow or White Flower Embrocation that really works to stop itching. You can buy it from most Chinese herbalist / supermarkets. If you are itching like mad, it acts like a fire extinguisher to it. It's a bit of a Chinese cure-all and is great for colds if you inhale it as with travel sickness, morning sickness etc and it smells a bit like olbas oil but more minty.

This is what it looks like:

But whatever you do, don't get it in your eyes cause it will sting like mad!

i purchased 3 small arnywear from my local sainsburys late last year in anticipation of our holiday to southern turkey this year.
i chose this product because of it claims protection from mosquitos, previous years we used sprays and roll ons from all the major companys and none is effective, the only thing that is effective are locally purchased sprays, but they contain higher levels of chemicals and different combinations of inredients.
however we bought and tried arnywear and to not put too fine a point on it, the product was useless, the only thing it was good for was as a flick style swat.
My wife was bitten to bits on the first day and only the local brew would keep the mossies off.
Arnywear as far as i am concerned is a total waste of my money, £24.00......
    Smells nice though!
A local product called OFF! was the best thing cost about 5 turkish lira, £2.00 english money.
Also useles was the autan products, my advice is save your money dont buy uk products, buy locally to where you are staying.
These are my opinions based on my own experiences, and you will find that everones body chemistry is different.
Ladys, sorry to say that shaving ones legs is also a no no in mossie land, the hairier you are the less mossie bites you get, and leave all those beautiful smelling perfumes and cosmetics at home, one whiff of them and you are mossie bait!
Again this is based on experience, and a wife with smooth hairless legs and lots of mossie bites, she beat me 25-2 in the mossie bite stakes, i have a fair bit of body hair and was bitten on the toe and the back of the leg in an area where long trousers had reduced the hairs!
    I trys, but sometimes I fails':A  :o

Came across this product Vape its a wearable gadget or could be left in room as well. Haven't found it in the shops yet but worth a try when available. They seem to do other products as well like wipes sold in M&S but can't find them either.

This is a simple embrocation of:
    Wintergreen Oil
    Peppermint Oil
    Menthol Crystal
    Lavender Oil
    Eucalyptus Oil
    Camphor

so really nothing to worry about.

For babies put a drop of pure lavender oil on their cot sheets at bedtime and on a piece of material in their buggy while you are out and about.

The Avon so soft woodland dry oil spray works great for me and I am a definate mossie magnet!

For anyone who likes a whisky as a nightcap they hate that too!!

I've just returned from my first EVER holiday without getting ONE mosquito bite. I was in Dalyan, Turkey and all around me people were getting bitten. As normal I was using 50% deet, so no change there.

    The solution???????

I had forgot my perfume free shower gel, so had to use my OH's, which was

    LYNX AFRICA

    Which I used every day.

When on my return I spoke to a few other experienced travellers, two told me that they had experienced the same with Africa shower wash. So.....................

    Titch :)
  • We are going up to Scotland next month so I've been looking for super-strength midge repellant! I'm going to get the Avon stuff - 2 for £5 but have to pay delivery unless anyone knows different?!
Anyway, in Home Bargains they have a gadget for after you have been bitten & it claims to reduce/stop itching & swelling from bites. I didn't get a good look but you click it a few times on the bite & the rest ...? Did notice it said people with pacemakers should not use so maybe some sort of current? Sorry if I sound clueless but I wondered if anyone else had seen/used it? Think it was £1.99, RRP £5.99.
