    Good idea Wolfhound.

I'm not going till 8th Aug, maybe you could PM me to let me know how you get on otherwise I might not see your post? I guess this stuff it pretty good from the responses on here.

Where are you going? I am going to Cyprus this year and I expect the mossies will be bad, Majorca last year, the last few days were especially bad, the rain didn't help. It wasn't just at night either, we were queuing for water park rides and everyone in the queue was flicking the mossies off the person in front of them!

Hi all, i'm off to Corfu. I've been reading up on it and there seems to be a problem with wasps as well  :rotfl:

Does anyone know if the Avon stuff is highly perfumed ?
I'm wondering if the stuff that repels mozzies might attract wasps.
This just gets better and better. :rotfl:

Oh, OH and his kids went to Sidari, Corfu and his youngest got eaten alive, over 100 bites on the first night BUT there was an ornamental pool of stagent water in the hotel complex which might not help.

Oh no, we're staying at Aqualand Village surrounded by pools. I didn't give that a second thought.

I'll be charged excess baggage at this rate just for my mozzie stuff :rotfl:

This thread has been a great help, thank you to all

The Avon stuff does whiff quite a bit at first but then it dies down. It kind of smells like talcum powder really. Part of the reason why it works is because it has citronella in it but it's something in the actual scent of it that they don't like. Don't worry fellas it doesn't smell very girly either!

My daughter is going on a trip in the summer to Sumatra, she will be spending time in the jungle. She has been advised to buy an effective mosi repellant. I was going to buy Deet, but the Avon stuff sounds much more appealing and not so harsh. Is it really as effective as Deet?

Mossies tend to appear around dusk. As above use chemicals that work for you but the best tip I've used is to keep your arms and legs covered when out for the evening. Also there will be less problems if you are in a built up area.

If you're talking about hard facts as to what is more effective than it's going to the Deet. There have been a few studies on this and Deet wins most of the time.

I really would say that it's going to trial and error as I personally find that non-Deet insect repellants work better for me.

garlic, deet, and marmite - just make sure you eat the right one and spread the others in the right places :)

I have been told that the usual human biting mosquito prefers to fly at less than 25foot. Not much comfort if you are in a bungalow, but I would add "request the highest floor possible" if in a hotel to the above list of excellent suggestions.
