In case the mossies get through your defences, I recommend Tiger Balm for damage control :)

Try this stuff, it is 100% deet and as strong as you can get, use sparingly, it is toxic and will take off your nail varnish! It is better than being bitten in my opinion, not everyone may agree, I've used it many times with success. You can buy it at mountaineering shops or search online.

  • Superdrug do their own suncream and after sun with mossi repelant in it, I got this last year when it was on buy one get one free as an extra to try after year after year both me and my youngest son just get 'eaten' when we go to cyprus, no matter what we try.
I didnt really even think about it as a repellant, had the usual rings that we burn in the room but it was often at night when we ate out we got bit, or anytime we were out.
Basically, used the suncream for a couple of days and as soon as we showered in the evening we applied they aftersun everywhere!! we were sold on it!! and between us all holiday we had a handfull of bites...and thats comparing my son to the year before when he very proudly counted over 40 bites
Very cheap and definately worth giving a try.

    Hi

I have just ordered 4 bottles through Avon, the soft & fresh dry oil spray is 2 for £4.00 at the moment and if you enter the code TIMEPIECE you get free delivery.

Don't forget Quidco cashback too! (I forgot    )

Thank you for this, i've just ordered two bottles to check use by dates.
If they have a few years on them, i'll order loads. I would rather use this than that stuff that takes your nail polish off.

Three weeks to go to my next holiday, we should all report back to see what suggestions worked best.

    Good idea Wolfhound.

I'm not going till 8th Aug, maybe you could PM me to let me know how you get on otherwise I might not see your post? I guess this stuff it pretty good from the responses on here.

Where are you going? I am going to Cyprus this year and I expect the mossies will be bad, Majorca last year, the last few days were especially bad, the rain didn't help. It wasn't just at night either, we were queuing for water park rides and everyone in the queue was flicking the mossies off the person in front of them!

They love me too and I always come up in huge lumps and had to go to hospital at one time. The Avon skin so soft oil does work, I put it on damp skin (just out of bath or shower) pour a little into your hand, rub both hands together and run your hands anywhere you will not be wearing clothes. For me that is usually lower legs and arms.

I also take anti histamine regularly – not for hay fever but in case something bites me.

I heard this from a dermatologist and it really works. If you are bitten (sometimes unavoidable) just rub ordinary toothpaste on the bite and it takes all the irritation away. This stops the circle of scratching, weeping , scratching etc. Turned my life around

My grandaughter eats lots of Marmite and she never gets bitten on holiday when everyone else does.

It's the vitamin B (B6?) that stops the mozzies.

I've got fair skin and they always seem to go for me and I get enormous itchy lumps. A doctor once told me not to wear perfume as they are attracted to that.
