To put it bluntly I actually lost money sending this item.
It was a unused new item of clothing that a old gf didnt want as wrong size, I knew it wouldnt sell for much probably but stuck on ebay as I would be doing someone a favour who was trying to get new clothes cheap. It sold for 99p and I had to buy some parcel tape which cost me about £1.50.
Stand aside future aspirants to Sainthood, Chrysalis is going for a halo....
PS
Isn't it funny how the item for sale always belonged to someone else when the postage costs have been inflated....I am a cow so cannot speak Bullshine but I do recognise its smell when I come upon it.0 -

To me the issue isnt cost of postage, I know to some cost is all that matters but not for me.
When I am buying the issue is the delivery method vs whats advertised at point of sale, eg. if I pay for express delivery and get 2nd class. Then after that how long the delivery takes.
If someone charges £20 for delivery I simply add that to total cost of item and make a decision if its worth buying, if it is I pay it. If I decide it isnt worth paying I move on. Ultimately the market decides if postage fees are too high, if they too high then it wont be sold. If the item does sell it proves the fees arent too high. Someone moaning about fees after they have commited to buy only has themselves to blame as they are displayed clearly.
Here is ebay's uk policy.

In other countries ebay permit a handling fee but I notice its ommited for some reason on the uk site. Personally I think this rule is stupid and is hand holding to buyers.
In terms of the OP tho and where they stand, ebay uk does permit costs of packaging added to fees. Unless you buy bulk packaging and ship high quantinties of items this can be pretty expensive.0 -
You can charge whatever you like for postage. No one is disputing that - the point people are trying to make is that buyers rate you on what you charge, so if you load your costs into the postage, you are more likely to be left a low rating which can be detrimental to your account.
But, as ever, you know more than most, so we're all wasting our time trying to offer advice.0 -
my sales are so low I dont even have a seller dashboard.
You don't need to be able to see it yourself- that's the point. You could be restricted before you even sell 10 items in an eligible period.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Also crysalis, you have given some quite strong advice across various threads about how we should all mark down sellers who don't send or use couriers we like, or when stuff arrives on day 2 instead of day 1. I'm not sure as a seller with so few sales that is is advisable for you now to apparently be telling potential newbies like yourself to charge what they want.
As above, yes we can charge what we want in an uncapped category, but it is a foolish seller that does so. Anyone that sells on ebay seriously is aware of how damaging an upset buyer can be.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I just paid £5.65 for first class delivery and it arrived as a second class letter for £1.10. I even had a seller (a different one) admit to postage gouging. I am tempted to try and educate her before she gets banned.0

I have tried but it rarely works, so they will pay the price in another way......Ebay are ruthless in this area.0 -

that was before I knew how silly ebay are with suspending people. I didnt know ebay were using the ratings system in a nazi fashion to ban people when they had ratings below 4-5 stars. We already discussed this, my opinion remains that the star system is extremely misleading to buyers and that alone makes it unfit for purpose. As for banning people, people shouldnt be banned for overcharging, thats basic business, banning should just be for people who dont send goods, scams etc.
The difference is you seem to put up with it and be desperate to follow their rules whilst I do my own thing. I also value consumer laws and standards of service.
I think the real reason ebay are trying to bottom out delivery fees is they dont make profit of the delivery price only the sale price.0 -
The way the post works, the difference between an item that comes out at 26mm deep from one 24mm deep can be considerable. (69p vs. £2.60).
I've started to advertise items that are marginal (ie. might be too big once packed) at £2.60 p&p. That means that I don't lose out. If it looks as though it will scrape through at 69p, I'd give a refund or a freebie item.
Can't stand postage roulette. :mad:0 -
