it shows that there is a wide range of opinions as to what is right or wrong with Ebay on just this one little issue.

The op started the thread because there was a trend for this sort of action.

I know hun. I was just saying that some sellers (not all) are a bit unscrupulous, and deserve the odd bloody nose!

So are some buyers. I don't think that because you have received damaged goods you should turn yourself into a thief because of it.

How has this thread got this long? And I think the OP is pathetic for even starting it personally.
    .....
Asking for a £1.20 postage refund as I've said is !!!!ing pathetic.

Ok,to illustrate some of the points on this thread here is a new seller being asked why her postage is so high by 2 potential buyers. Her postage for a lightweight jacket is £8.90. I would put money on the fact that within 1 month her account will be restricted, and rightly so.

Questions and answers about this item

Q: Thank you not a problem but I like sellers to state accurate costs I received a jacket and dress last week for 3.70
A: Always happy to have feed back. I have not been selling long so am still learning. Thank you.
26 May, 2013 Q: Hi are you sure your have postage charges right seems very expensive for a jacket regards
A: Thank you for your enquiry. The postage is what was recommended by eBay. Happy to discuss if you buy. Kind regards

I have only been asked for a partial postage refund once - I sent the buyer the ebay guidelines which state that if you are unhappy about postage you should query this BEFORE bidding.
I refused to send a refund as it was an agreed price, the buyer is now banned from further purchases from me.

And did they leave low stars/neg feedback?

No they left very good feedback - there was nothing they could argue with really - they had agreed to a total amount to pay.
The items I sold were relisted a couple of days later too seperatley with postage prices higher than what I had charged!!
  • Hi. I have just bought a box set of dvds and are very pleased to have won the bid.
The postage however is a different story...
I paid £4 p&p. The envelope says postage paid £2.60 and for the envelope would suggest 20p = total postage to seller £2.80.

I have asked for a part refund of £1.20 for the over charge on postage.

The seller wants to give me a total refund for dvds and postage as long as I send the dvds back at my expense.

I wish to keep the dvd box set and just have the part refund of postage of £1.20.

    What should I do?

If I were to post an item, because of where i live it would cost me about 40 minutes in time, and about £2 in petrol. If you were to demand a £1.20 refund from me because of the above, I would post you a steaming pile of poo.

If I were in charge, I would ban you from eBay.

They had agreed a total amount to pay but that total is split into purchase price and postage price. If you think it is OK not to actually pay what you are charging and thus move the goalposts on that portion, why is the purchase price set in stone.

My view is that if you say postage and packing cost x then x should not be that much more than the cost of the stamp, a small amount to cover packing materials.

For a big difference in the P&P I would leave low stars for postage even if the item was fine. Ebay rules and the DSR system encourage this action.

Oh dear, oh dear. It wouldn't be the buyer being banned in this instance.
