yeah I took him to the docs when it flared up cos it looked almost like hives & i thought he'd eaten something (strawberries, kiwi, etc). He was fine himself otherwise, no runny nose, no hayfever, no change in bath products etc etc. I checked with nursery that there had been nothing different & i went thro it all with the doc, she was really thorough & ended up on the washing powder (which I had changed about a week before to ariel non bio). she suggested i try fairy or persil, i told her fairy hadn't been good so i got a small box persil non bio & (touch wood) that seems ok. I've been using it now for nearly 3 weeks. It just seems so expensive compared to shops own

I have to use Ecover liquid as it's the only one that doesn't affect ds2 and I have tried the supermarket "green" versions and they still seem to affect him, even though they have virtually the same labelling.

the only ecover product i've tried was the washing up liquid which played havoc with my hands (like many others), I was disappointed to have a reaction to it as i defintely prefer it to the Mr T's copy. but i haven't tried the washing powders yet

I have this problem where I can't normally use cheap washing powder especially Tescos which really brings me out in a rash BUT the other day I spotted this powder in Tescos called Daisy. Anyway it was about £2.99 for a 35 wash pack so I thought I'd give it a go. It washes fine and so far I haven't come up in a rash at all

If you've found one with pretty much the same ingredients as Persil I'd give it a go and see what happens. If he does come up in a rash then go and get some persil for him and just use up the own brand on other people clothes until it's gone. You could always just by the smallest pack to trial it first
If you obey all the rules, you miss all the fun:cool:

I have the same sort of problem with washing powders, most bring me out in a hive like rash. I found Bold to be the best one so I stuck with that, all the other main brands such as Ariel, Persil etc.. affect me, however I never got as far as testing own brands. I'm not willing to risk it now though so I'll stick with Bold.

I never had it as a child though, this started about 10 years ago. I don't have excema or anything either. When I asked my doctor about it she said your body can develop intolerances to things it's been fine with before, so I'm loathe to start switching cosmetics, washing powders etc.. too much these days incase it triggers a new allergy.

true, when i was trying different brands i would wash his pjs, pants & vests in it & then see how he was. I could usually tell fairly quickly if it agreed with him or not ;) i'm not sure why he used to be able to use some brands but now can't

I find I'm the same with hand soaps: I can use pretty much any soap for a few months, then I'll start to get redness and itching, but it'll go if I switch to a different soap. I just switch every three or four bars. I'd originally thought it was the perfume, but the same thing has happened with all the unperfumed/simple ranges I've tried. I guess my skin just gets bored!
