  • Use soda crystals in hot water to soak your cutlery and bottoms of pans too its brill. I do this before putting them in the dishwasher too and I only need half the dishwasher tablet per load.

  • I use sainsburys basics powder and soda crystals if the wash needs a boost. The powder doesnt have a strong smell so I use own brand conditioners for a nice smell. I know a lot of people swear by vineger and essential oils for that but I havent found any cheap vineger to try it out yet! I do all my washing on a 30 wash and have never had any problems with things not coming clean.

  • Also get some micro fibre cloths about £1 each you only need to run them under the tap and wring out then you can clean anything for free. No more need for expensive and harmful cleaning products.

Micro fibre cloths are amazing on cookers and windows, my sons trophies have also come up brilliant with them.

When doing your windows and mirrors wipe over wth a wet microfibre and rub over again with a dry one. you will be amazed. No streaks - great for cars too. They can go in the washer over and over.

You too will soon be a domestic goddess.

Don't use liquid, use powder! Washing powder contains bleaching agents and liquid doesn't.

You see, the bleaching agents in the washing powder helps to keep your machine clean. I'm not saying that your washing machine will be clean as a whistle just because you use powder in place of liquid - but it will be 'healthier' for your machine in the long run.

  • I use a two way approach. For washing over 40 degreesI use two thirds Tesco value washing powder and one third washing soda.

For cool washes I use a mix of the ultra concentrated - got it on offer - and half Tesco value washing liquid.

I have tried doing all washing at 30 degrees, but it doesn't do it for me. I only do darks coloureds - about half my wash - on 30 degrees.
  • I dont like washing below 40 as I like to know all germs have gone and always do my towels, cleaning cloths and bedding on 95.

I have a lot of cricket whites to wash too on 40 deg and thats how i learnt about stain removal with soda crystals and cheap bio powder.

  • I have a problem with the cheaper washing powders, sons' school uniforms are burgundy sweatshirts and navy polo shirts, they tend to fade within 6 months using the cheaper brands. Even though they are fruit of the loom and the good thing is they hold their shape - but not colour very well.
Shirts end up purplish and sweatshirts a dark pink ! So not cool for a year 10 !

    Any advice OSer's ?

  • I was told a while back that the best detergent to use for your machine is Bold Powder. This was by a washing machine expert. Liquids clog up your machine an awful lot faster than a powder, and cos Bold is 2 in 1 I don't buy fabric conditioner anymore.

I am tempted to try own brands, but then I'd have to go back to fab con, and I have extremely sensitive skin so I'm wary of star drops etc. So for now, its Bold for me. I can get it in Costco or on special in the supermarkets.
