Washing powder

Options
I know quite afew of you OSers make up the good washing powder/basic w.p. mix. I haven't tried this as yet, does this mix really work ? Is it also better to use a premium good powder eg ariel rather than bog standard ? I am currently using a choice of Fairy non bio (kids have excema) & Bold for when I need to. However I seem to be using the Bold more now (seemingly to no ill effect) than the Fairy & am rapidly beginning to wonder if the non bios are a bit of a con for us gullible souls. Does anyone with excema use this OS mix & if so, how do you find it ? I should point out I also chuck soda crystals in w.m. for stains as well. (sorry for long winded !!) ;)

This site is great but my housework seems to be suffering !

Non biological laundry products do not contain enzymes. They won't be as effective at stain removal but they're better suited for people with sensitive skin.

If anyone with sensitive skin (eg eczema) were to use biological laundry products, they might have a skin reaction. Don't feel gullible because you avoid buying products known to affect sensitive skin.;)

My current mix is equal parts Bold/Bettabuy/soda crystals. I use 45-50ml measure in a full load. OH has sensitive skin (psoriasis) and lots of allergies but this mix doesn't seem to be upsetting him. Results are as good as with posh brand only.

Ds has excema and the only powder I can use with no ill effects is persil non-bio. One piece of advice I was given to help the excema was to use less washing powder than recommended....now I only use half! Better for ds, better for the environment and great money saving :D My washing doesn't seem to have suffered either ;)

I made a mix with Ikg of Bold 2 in 1
Ikg of Sainsbury's Basic biological and
    I kg of soda crystals.

I have only used it a few times so far,but everything has come out clean and stain-free.I am very pleased with the results and it is certainly going to work out cheaper than the Ariel liquid + Comfort fabric softener that I was using before.
  • Hi. I have sensitive skin but have had no problems using Tesco`s own Bio washing powder. I do use Tesco`s Pure fabric condioner also. This is the ONLY bio powder than has not caused me any probs.

For the baby I use fairy non bio and although it is expensive I do like it, esp the woollens. For the rest of us in the house it is 1 sainsburys tablet bio and 1 sccop of soda crystals- stains .........gone.

I have stopped using powder cos I can never get the alloted washes out of the pack so though tablets are dearer I know how many washes I will get.

I don't much about different kinds of washing powder and just use Lidl's one. The cheaper one. Lasts for ages as there's only two of us. Not sure if either of us have any kind of sensitive skin, but unless I see there's a problem, will most likely carry on using it, even when there are bubbas. Obviously if there is a problem them, I wil change it under advice. I don't even know the diff between non-bio blah de blah.
