Hi im new to this. I was wondering is it only bank charges you can apply for or can you do credit cards as well cos i have a heap of credit cards that just have the balance as charges. The majority of my debts are charges. I have applied to get my charges back from Lloyds but as i can see from reading other peoples coments on here that its pretty hard to get anything out of them. My boyfriend has recently reclaimed his charges from the halifax and managed to get all £4300 back which he never expected. So i have started procedings with Lloyds and have asked RBS for my statements as well. If anyone can help i would be very gratefull :D

You can reclaim credit card charges with the same methods as bank charges.

£175 Abbey Mortgage Repayment Fee, £170.03 Capital One Bank Charges £418.07 Lloyds TSB Bank Charges, £2,671.55 Mis-sold Endowment Policy, all for OH

Thanks for that. So i have to send off the £10 to each company? I know it sounds a stupid question.

    Hello,

I have seen a few posts about reclaiming credit card charges. Can we do this as I can't seem to find information about how to do this? I stilh have balances on these cards - can I still claim? Can anyone tell me the procedure for claiming over the limit charges from credit card companies like MBNA etc please?

    Thank you.

The procedure and regulations governing credit card charges is the same as bank charges so follow the process laid out in the main article as usual simply adapting the template letters to suit. The only difference is in the name of the charges and you can reclaim Late Payment and Overlimit fees. Good luck :)

Even the Office of Fair Trading’s figure of £12 is still “extravagantly” higher than the cost of administering a late payment or going over your limit and therefore unlawful. All that happens is that the computer adds the charge to your account. You don’t usually even get a standard letter.<O:p</O:p

You can use the letter templates for bank charges with a little bit of customisation. The credit card companies usually try to use the OFT’s ruling as a justification that the charges are correct. They may offer the difference between the current £12 charge and any older and higher charges.<O:p</O:p

Unfortunately, the Financial Ombudsman will also only request that the company involved pays the difference between the current £12 charge and any older and higher charges, so is not an alternative to court proceedings for these claims.

Please read Martin’s article and the Reclaim Bank Charges Help thread.

And it's advisable to use the court route as opposed to the Financial Ombudsman as otherwise you might only get the difference to £12 back and no interest.
