  • Hi, Can you claim back charges from credit cards? I had a mint card and was charged a few times. Can i claim them back and is there a set way of doing it? are there any template letters for this sort of thing?
    Cheers

Yes, you can claim credit card charges.

Even the Office of Fair Trading’s figure of £12 is still “extravagantly” higher than the cost of automatically administering a late payment and therefore unlawful. All that happens is that the computer adds the charge to your account. I didn't even get a standard letter.<O:p</O:p

You can use the letter templates for bank charges with a little bit of customisation. The credit card companies usually try to use the OFT’s ruling as a justification that the charges are correct. They may offer the difference between the current £12 charge and any older and higher charges.<O:p</O:p

Unfortunately, the Financial Ombudsman will also only request that the company involved pays the difference between the current £12 charge and any older and higher charges, so is not an alternative to court proceedings for these claims.

Please read the Reclaim Bank Charges Help thread for information and the Reclaimed Bank Charges Success Stories and Reclaimed Bank Charges Success Stories II threads for inspiration.

sorry but I am new to this site so please bear with me if posts are not up to scratch

    Hello all,
I asked for all my previous statements for my halifax and was told it was at a £5 charge for each month. Have phoned a couple of times now and told the same thing. However they did tell me that I have had to pay £1900 in charges since my account was open in 2002. Can I appy for interest on this as well and if so how much? AlsoI have sent two letters and upon reading this thread I am not sure if its a healthy idea to take the matter to court. Please give me some advice
  • Hi does anyone know the address for Tesco Personal Finance Credit Card for sending my claim for charges ? I already have their summary (lost the address I sent that initially to) of charges against me so now want to do the actual claim.

I have tried searching and can't see anything although I must have found it the first time around !

I do see lots of people asking for addresses is there no definitive list anywhere ? Would have thought this site should have a link as its a common enough question for many people ?

Thanks in advance for any help
  • Thanks but not sure it is the right one its a different one from the one address they do show on the Tesco site and mine is a Tesco Finest Platinium card so not that is the same as the Visa or RBS run cards ????

Lloyds TSB Credit Card - Just had an interesting phone call about claiming the difference between their charge and the £12. I asked why it was taking so long to send out a letter regarding my offer. I was informed that Lloyds had to request copies of my statements to see what had been charged. Funny I thought and asked why my original claims had been rejected when they did not know what and how much i was claiming. I was informed that it may take 4 weeks to get these statements. I suggested that I was not waiting and said I would fax copies f all statements concerned to save them waiting. grudgingly they accepted this so I should hear fairly soon. 10 out of 10 for trying but do they think we are all stupid. So if anyone tries this tactic just fax copies of your statements to save time and them money.
  • Hi,
Just a quick note about reclaiming creditcard charges, having recently visited the information commisionaires website, there latest advise,to save time, is that you write to your card company stating you want default charges refunding etc, and just give them the dates in question that you are claiming for, there is no need to ask for statements first,i have written to all nine of my card companys, open and closed accounts, with the above info, most have acknowledged my letter,i had a final responce from barclaycard today, not admitting any liability, but offering me £448.00 in settlement, which i have accepted, all in all a good result.
