An "unprecedented and historic result"

Lets hope they keep it up until 2015 because the bulk of their support comes from the tory right and guess what that'll mean......yes Ed will be in Downing Street simply because their votes will not be translated into seats because of first past the post so there will no need to worry about a UKIP/Tory alliance:rotfl:
I bet they are wishing for PR now!
I'm not so sure if I was Ed M that top of my wish list would be a 'populist right-wing party that can't be blamed for anything'.0 -
A question for DLW/Moby et al. If UKIP mostly took votes from the Tories isn't 29% a very poor result for Labour?I think....0

LOL
Farage just admitted the "protest party" issue on Radio 4.
“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

A question for DLW/Moby et al. If UKIP mostly took votes from the Tories isn't 29% a very poor result for Labour?
According to the BBC the projected national share of the vote was;
Conservative 25%
Labour 29%
UKIP 23%
Lib Dem 14%
At the last General Election the actual national share of the vote was;
Conservative 36%
Labour 29%
UKIP 3%
Lib Dem 23%
Why would it be good news for Labour that their share of the vote is the same now as it was under Gordon Brown?0 -
Great news especially if it can be consolidated on in the next general election. I cannot bring myself to vote labour, lib dems sold out, cons have slashed tax on the wealthy. Under all three' immigration is a joke, pensions are a joke, law and order is a joke and the economy is terrible. It's about time we had real people having an input into our lives and not public school elite, bankers and business men looking after their own buddies and interests over the other 95% of the population.0

Bit of info about your hero, Nigel Farage:
Farage was born in Herne, Kent, on 3 April 1964, to Guy Justus Oscar Farage and Barbara Stevens.[9][10][11] His father was a
stockbroker in the City who left the family home when Nigel was five years old.[12] Farage was educated at Dulwich College.[11] In 1982 he joined the London commodity brokerage firm Drexel Burnham Lambert.[11] In 1986, he joined Credit Lyonnais Rouse.[11] He joined Refco in 1994, and Natexis Metals in 2003.[11]
In his early 20s, Farage was diagnosed with testicular cancer but made a full recovery.[13] Farage has been described as a "chain smoker".[14][15]
Farage has been married twice. He married Grace Hayes in 1988, by whom he has two children: Samuel (1989) and Thomas (1991). The marriage was dissolved in 1997.[11] In 1999 he married Kirsten Mehr, a German national, and they have two children, Victoria (born 2000) and Isabelle (born 2005).[16]
So, he went to Dulwich College, and worked for Credit Lyonnais Rouse, so public school and either stockbroking or banking at Credit Lyonnais. Sounds a bit posh, to me!
I realise that many of the UKIP candidates won't have gone to public school, we'll have to wait and see.
Re the Coalition, doesn't the increase in the personal tax allowances mean anything to you? I'm pretty grateful for it.0 -

So presumably you're not aware that Farage was educated at Dulwich College (a leading English public school, apparently) and became a commodities trader in the City and used to work for Credit Lyonnais at one time?
PS Beaten to it. Shucks!0 -
I apologise for not reading through this entire thread!
I have been looking at the UKIP website. And I can find no information at all about how they would tackle the current economic issues facing us all. And there is nothing about how they would deal with the property market/housing issues, nor how they would deal with the legacy of the banking crash.
They do say that they will re-introduce grammar schools, but they do not say how they will educate the people who fail the 11-plus (or whatever takes its place). They are in complete denial about climate change, and they say nothing about the NHS.
But they plan to allow smoking in pubs and restaurants.
TruckerTAccording to Clapton, I am a totally ignorant idiot.0 -

The Labour party has failed to answer this question for the past 3 years.........;)0
