UK nooks have a .co.uk web address on the outside of the box (well, mine did). Presumably the US ones have a .com address. Therefore you should be able to check them before you remove the cellophane.

er, yes I thought that - but apparently some users have found the box says UK VER but inside the software directs them to the US site.

    hi
im not sure of the best place to post- ive scrolled through quite a bit & not found an answer.
ive just bought a nook (very.co.uk) but i also have an older kobo.
ive read that epub can be formatted on calibre ?

but my question is if i want to buy a new book that has just been published can i share it to the kobo so my mum can read it ?

and do i buy the book from nook (that doesnt download on to my pc it wirelessly adds it- brilliant!) or kobo and then how do i share if its on my account or do i buy it from somewhere else alltogether ?

    sorry im a newbie!
    thankyou for any help

In also have an older Kobo and a Nook. All my books from the Kobo are stored on Calibre as well as on the Kobo, when I connected the Nook to PC then it automatically sensed it and I added some of my Kobo books (so to answer your question then yes books can be on multiple devices).

I also have some of my Kindle books from the ipad on Calibre and have added those too - Calibre will convert them.

Guys i've got an old Sony PRS 300 reader that I got in the Tesco sale (when electrical things were good at Tesco lol) Its ok but does keep freezing on me.

As its an older reader it has the Vizplex e ink. I see all the new one's have the pearl e-ink. Now this means nothing to me but i'm assuming pearl is a newer better interface?

Can anyone compare the Nook to the PRS 300 and tell me what they think? No point me starting the hunt for a Nook if its no better than the Sony one

    Thanks everyone

I ordered mine from Currys on 02/05 finally arrived this week. Have to say impressed with the customer service from Nook

I ordered one from Currys on the 7th and still haven't got it! Did you get lots of emails constantly giving you different delivery dates? I had one saying it would be delivered on the 17th, then one saying it was out of stock and they didn't know when stock would be in, and now my order details on their website say 'to be delivered on saturday 25 may'. Needless to say, i still haven't got it!!!!

I have a PRS 505, the nook is very similar to that screen wise. Slightly wider. Well worth the money at the moment, a plus is that all the books don't need converting from the Sony to the Nook. :j

    Thanks Kenr

After seeing your post I remembered that hubby had a PRS 505 in his office so I found it out and i'm charging it up as we speak. He never used it (unwanted gift) so I will start using that.

So now I don't think i'll be any better off with a Nook. I did fancy being able to download free books on Amazon but it seems this can be done anyway by downloading to computer and then using a converter like Calibre to convert it to epub.

I don't need wifi capability as I'm happy to load a couple of books at home ready for when I need them.

Well thats saved me £30, whoo hoo! :T

I have a Sony PRS300 and have bought a Nook. For me, there is no comparison - the Nook is a far better device and a superb reading experience. The ebook organisation is much better, the touch-screen is a bonus if not a must-buy difference for me, but the biggest differences for me are ease of reading (much more choice of screen fonts, sizes and layouts) and better ratio of screen size to overall device size. After comparing the two over the last couple of weeks, I'll be selling on my PRS300, and am more than happy I bought a Nook.

Oh I'd decided not to get one until your review came along... I want a Nook again now lol!

I am torn on what to do. I have an ipad that I can hook up to my phone to go on the net to my hearts content. I do usually just use a reader by keeping my thumb on the button and wonder if the touch screen would be something I would use.

I may try out this Sony 505 first and decide from there. Hubby had one book on it since it was bought new so almost unused comes to mind ::eek:

If my 505 hadn't died I wouldn't have a nook now! I still use the buttons to change pages, as fingerprints on the screen annoy me.

How interesting, I hate fingerprints on my ipad after DG has played on it. Since writing on here I've been studying all the different things that a Nook is capable of and I don't think I need them.

My PRS 300 is on its last legs but the 505 I've unearthed of hubby's is beautiful. Its even got a leather case that I bought him!

Its not hubby's anymore... its mine!
