That's weird - when my came yesterday it didn't have my details on it - I had to register. Maybe because I hadn't downloaded any books from them, but only just bought the Nook from them? Who knows...

No idea how it works. All 3 that I ended up with I had to open after discovering my details were on my own. I was panicking about how I was going to get my books onto the thing etc as I have no idea about these things, so was a bit grateful that they had done it for me lol.

Books by Blyton and Cox are still in copyright, and it unlikely that they can be found for free. The Nook download site shows the ones available and their cost, which is more than I would have thought, especially for the Blyton ones.

Thank you for your reply. I didn't realise that the free books are out of copyright ones.

hi i need some help i have downloaded calibre and the plug in then i have added the plug in to calibre via add book button is that right what do i do now

You don't add the plug-in to calibre via the 'add book button'.

After I had downloaded and installed calibre and the plug-in to my pc I followed the instructions from the 'apprenticealf' link starting from the section headed 'Installing the DeDRM plugin for calibre' and stopping when I came to the section headed 'Customising the plugin with encryption keys'
It will tell you that you have successfully installed the plug-in at the end.

You need to make sure that you have 'unzipped' the plug-in first
and select the zip file that is in the “DeDRM_calibre_plugin” folder.

'Unzip' the file - lots of freeware 'un-zippers' around like 7-zip if you haven't got one i.e:

    http://www.7-zip.org/download.html

I didn't need to use this - in Windows you can just right-click on the file and select 'Extract All'

There are many free downloads which are of books still in copyright, some self published type things, others offered by the publishers. If you like science fiction/fantasy Baen books offer some of their in print books for free (baen.com). The Book Depository has some free books which may be out of print, I only checked Crime and science fiction.

I've just ordered 1 from Asia. I also had an email from Argos saying it's in stock, but I couldn't find one near me in London.

Thanks Riazmb, I nearly ignored your post as I don't want to order one from Asia! But I reread your title and tried Asda. Yay! One nook apparently on its way!

My 2 arrived from Nook UK yesterday, and I've opened one of them to check if it has any of my details pre-registered on it, which it doesn't. I assume that's because I just ordered the Nook without registering or setting up a B & N account. I had to register before I could do anything with it, but the registration process didn't involve putting in a credit card as far as I could see.

I'm assuming, then, that the Nook UK orders which arrived pre-registered are all the ones ordered by people who opened a B & N account when they made their purchase?

Just out of interest, IrishRose12, did all 3 of yours arrive with your details pre-registered? TIA

Neither of mine from Nook arrived pre-registered. I had a card on file with Nook from when I bought them, and when I set them up for internet access the first thing that happened was both of them connecting to the B & N store and registering themselves automatically. I had no input at all, and no opportunity to register one in my hubbies name. I'll have to find out how to deregister one and set up an account for him and register it properly.
