That's a noble viewpoint, however I'd guess that a lot of them are simply the contents of the vast number of .rar / .zip files that are available for dodgy download all over the Internet, containing pirated copies of books
Not particularly 'noble' - just based on experience of people selling cd/dvds of software on eBay - most of it is freeware/open source stuff that can be generally downloaded elsewhere (like OpenOffice or various flavours of Linux). Some cds of ebooks are probably as you describe but will often get pulled after a complaint under eBay's copyright policy:
http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/sell/copyrights.html
But I suspect most are as I suggested - out of copyright 'classics' from sites like Project Guttenburg.
For example here is eBays listing of ebook collections - those I've looked at contain the public domain/copyright disclaimer:

I've called Very to cancel my simple touch, I'd already bought the glow light but thought I'd pick up an extra basic one anyway.
Delivery was originally tomorrow but had a message this afternoon that was moving to the 24th May. Had a phone call now stating they are now looking at the 31st May at the earliest so I've cancelled.
If anyone is waiting on Very it's looking likely that it will be June before you get your nook.0 -
When you log into the very site does it show in your transaction history? In mine showed up as soon as it got dispatched -
13/05/2013 Promotional Discount £15.00 CR
13/05/2013 REFUND TO DELTA £15.00 CR
Just checked and found it on there which is great. Also, give them their due I had a response from Very within two hours - impressive. What isn't so impressive is that it can take up to ten working days from dispatch date because it's going back on the card, bit misleading but at least it's on its wayDebt Free by 2015: £5839.01/£13000 1% challenge = 44.91%CAMRA Member: Drinking Ale doesn't make me any less of a woman :beer:0 -
The posters who bought from Nook direct, can you confirm whether there was any sign of the device having been pre-registered to your account when you switched it on out of the box, or did you have to start from scratch? Many thanks in advance for any replies.
The ones I got directly from Nook came with my details registered already on it. I had to take them off, as I would spend too much money on it otherwisePay all debt off by Christmas 2025 £815.45/£3,000£1 a day challenge 2025 - £180/£730 Declutter a bag a week in 2025 11/52Lose 25lb - 10/25lbs Read 1 book per week - 5/52Pay off credit card debt 18%/100%0 -

That's what I was concerned about. I'm wondering what they do when you send the item back (unopened) for a refund? I wouldn't like the idea of something pre-registered with my details going back to the warehouse to be sent out to someone else. Of course, one would hope they would deregister it as soon as they get it back, but bearing in mind the inefficiency of the customer service dept and the number of problems we've had with them so far, how could we be sure those details would be taken off before it was sent out to another customer?0 -

Well I'd like to think that any details would be removed As soon as.
It was handy though when I first started it up as the books I had downloaded from Nook themselves (free ones) were already on the nook so I didn't have to transfer them on. I only had to transfer the ones that I had to re-format on Calibre onto it.
TBH I wouldn't worry too much about it. Even though their Customer is useless I wouldn't be concerned about it. PC world and Currys are worse than them, and I'm never worried about previous things.
But then again, I'm baffled as to how this thing works at all TBH. I'm confused as to how my details were put onto it, as when I received it, it was sealed and there was no charger at all in it. Yet it still has writing on it when its turned off and when the battery's dead lol. The writing is a feature of eInk. Same as having a book cover displayed when the unit is "off", the display will remember the last thing displayed until overwritten.Registered Linux user #497422 :beer:0

That's weird - when my came yesterday it didn't have my details on it - I had to register. Maybe because I hadn't downloaded any books from them, but only just bought the Nook from them? Who knows...0
