I downloaded Calibre okay but got a 'malicious' warning when trying to download the plug-in from apprenticealf so didn't proceed.

I have trawled through the blog and cannot see the link that Elsien suggested in my earlier question about it.

Someone on hotukdeals got a virus when trying it, which is putting me off too but I need to get it somehow.

Has anyone else had any problems with this, and if not, which link did they use?

    Thanks:)

If you follow the link on Apprentice Alf's Blog i.e:

The latest tools_v6.05.zip can be downloaded from
    http://www1.datafilehost.com/d/e290f19f

Then make sure you un-tick the box that says

"Use our download manager and get recommended downloads"

Then click on the smaller grey 'Download' box (not the large black 'Download Now' box) and you will get the tools with no virus warnings (it's the download manager that this host site is trying to include with the tools that generates the virus warning).

'Unzip' the file - lots of freeware 'un-zippers' around like 7-zip if you haven't got one i.e:

    http://www.7-zip.org/download.html

Then it's the 'DeDRM_calibre_plugin' folder that you need - just follow the instructions in the 'DeDRM_plugin_ReadMe' document.

    Hope that ok.

For anyone still waiting on Currys orders I have just spoken to them as I have managed to get mine from Argos and I cancelled my existing order with Currys. They said that they are expecting stock in on Friday. Operator told me its been a nightmare with the Nook orders as they sold 4000 in the first day of the price reduction.

    No
I created an account on line using a PC, no card details required
When running the Nook for the first time it asked if I had an existing account or wished to set up a new one, used existing account, no card details required
Did exactly the same with the wife's
We both got Pride and Prejudice for free

In my opinion it would be very easy to accidentally purchase a book

That sounds good. Did you have to register the Nook with them though for warranty purposes?

  • John Lewis have now managed to cancel my order, not sure why! Has anyone else had this? I never asked for it and stated that I was happy to wait whilst they got more stock.

Got one Nook through Argos (last one left in stock) but that's immediately gone to the other half!

How did that happen? Do you have to fill in a serial number or suchlike to initially register the product?

I have set up a Nook account online through my PC, but have not yet unpacked the Nook, bit scared of the set up process:eek:

As mentioned, I always connect my desktop PC to the internet on a wired connection and don't want to use wifi for that.

I have a code that came with the router for setting up wifi, but:

    a) Is that difficult to set up? Have heard about problems with setting up wifi.

    b) Will I still be able to use the PC as usual on the wired connection?

    c) Would I be better just downloading books to my desktop and then putting them onto the Nook? Would that be a far easier option for a technophobe who is really quite nervous about anything to do with the internet?

I've just set my nook up, and I don't think you can set it up without the wifi connection (well apparently you can, but you can't register it).

Melbury, come on...you can do it! I just did a quick google and somebody out there suggested a genius and extremely simple solution for getting your device registered: go to your nearest cafe/restaurant that offers free wifi! :D (McDonalds? Costa?)

Connect to their wifi - should be easy peasy! You just select their network and put in the password they give you (if it requires one, check with a staff member) and then put in your details, et voila! And from then on, you can just put your books on via your PC, if you don't want to attempt to set-up the wifi.

    Hi
When I looked a bit earlier at my order status it still shows processing and due for delivery on 14th May (I told the telephone operator I spoke to yesterday I wanted to wait for more stock and also when they replied to my order status email today I also I said I wanted to wait for more stock)
