Thanks Very does look ok but I'd want to close the account pretty quickly really, suppose if I pay it off immediately then that would be ok

The discount of £15 is tempting me but sometimes these accounts are not great and might mean loads of emails, post etc....

I'm just reading up on the links about rooting the Nook,I'm not very good at these technical things so not sure if I'd manage to get it so I could use it like an iPad for the Internet browsing whilst I'm away (I realise it would be basic for Internet use)

Haven't unpacked mine yet, so can't help on the practicalities of setting it up for the non-techies, of which I am one.
I *think* I've used Very or one of its namesakes before to get a similar discount when buying a hoover, and don't remember being inundated with post and emails, so I don't think they're too bad.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Thanks again sounds ok, just wondering how much I'd use it as I do have a basic kindle but if I can get basic Internet via wifi on a Nook and get the Nook for about £17 then that is a very good deal:)

I was thinking I'd have to take an old iPod touch to Berlin to use on the wifi and that's not that easy on the eyes for web browsing!

Thank you elsien for your reply and confirming that that's their system. I wasn't overly worried until I spoke to their CS - seemed to be a couple of sandwiches short of a picnic so wasn't sure if I should trust their information. At the time of payment it did mention that the voucher will be eventually refunded but I expected to see it on the transaction history.

Alisont, I believe there is no way around opening an account with them. When you register with your address they give you a credit limit, but you can just ignore it and pay by card. I'll be closing down my account with them as soon as I receive the nook I ordered, I don't wish to have a credit account with anybody but now that I have a little inside knowledge of their Customer Service even less with them in particular. Be sure to choose Collect+ service as its free and you can collect at your convenience from your local newsagent, while their home delivery is £4.

I'm getting the feel they might be like Studio cards I had an account with many years back.

If I get one it will be via the account for the discount - but not sure yet, really wary of giving so much info sometimes to get accounts.

Thanks for the tip about the collect service - I did look but nothing that local that I can get to easily as I don't drive - most would take me about 40 minutes to walk to and back from or £4 in bus fares! Unless I can get someone to pick it up for me or I could always do with the exercise I guess!

If anyone wants a charger and can't find any left at currys, Argos has them reduced to £8. I gave in and bought one after reading that some phone chargers can damage the Nook if the voltage is too high. No idea how true that is though, anyone know?

    rooting is easy
I did my OHs using Nookmanager
however we only wanted it to open up the formats of ebooks and for me to have a play :o
an e reader is not a tablet replacement
if you want a tablet then by a tablet would be my advice

    Hi,

I picked up a Nook today and am currently charging it. How long does it need to be charged before it switches on? Because it's not at the moment...!

Mine was up and working in 15-20 mins.. i guess it might depend on your power supply

If you want to make the battery last a lot longer - turn off wifi. It's crazy battery life - i spent about an hour reading, and it only used 1% of the battery in that time
