    I've been Money Tipped!
Has anyone downloaded Les Miserables the unabridged version and if so could you give me a link please, I have just been searching and they all seem to be in French or abridged.

My husband is reading it on my daughter's kindle at the minute so obviously wanted to download it onto the nook so she can have her kindle back!

Has anyone had problems with nook direct website?

I ordered the other day and got the email saying that my payment had been declined like other people. After no success trying to contact them I ordered from argos. I then received an email from nook saying that they have sorted the problem and they hoped I would return to place my order again.

I didn't as I had already ordered from argos. However I have just received an email from nook saying that I should receive my order within the next 4-5 days.

    Has anyone else had this?

    yes...

I got the first email saying they couldn't process the payment so ordered from Argos. Then I got the second email to say the problem was resolved and I had to reorder which I didn't as I had ordered from Argos. Then I got the email saying it had been despatched. However my account is showing no orders:mad:

Can you not just convert the kindle edition using Calibre?

I just added my own screensavers :)

Using Google Picassa, I selected a few nice photos, then exported them to a new folder. I turned them all grayscale, enhanced them so they had lots of contrast, then did a crop using a 6x8 factor in portrait. I then exported them again as 600x800.. copied them to the screensaver folder and now I have nice photos of the kids to see when it's not in use

One more tip.. you're not forced to buy books from the B&N shop. I just managed to buy a book from the google play store, then transfer it to my Nook. Instructions here: http://support.google.com/googleplay/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1065611

Yes, I did think of that, I am going to give it a try now.

I know that some can't be converted from kindle to epub, I downloaded a calibre file to do it but it won't open for some reason.

Got these multiple emails, I ordered, got the cc refused, re-ordered using a logged user, accepted, then I ordered one from very, and emailed them telling them to cancel the order (as per their guide) today I get 2 emails, one saying it is dispatched the second that there has been an error and they don't actually have any available.

  • I managed to order a £29 Nook from Asda Direct yesterday . It did say they won't be despatching until 9th May but hopefully I will get it OK.
I have a Kindle but I thought at this price I can give the Nook to my Mum to see how she gets on with it.

Try and read the kindle version on Calibre. If you can't, it has been coded to stop piracy.

It is possible to remove the DRM coding using a Calibre plugin: the apprentice alf website is the best one to tell you how.

I have wasted so much time now chasing after a cheap nook and trying to work out what Barnes and Noble are doing with their emails and "customer service" I think I'll stick to borrowing my wife's kindle when she's watching TV instead.

Yes, I downloaded a DRM plugin but couldn't get it to work, it kept coming up with a message saying it couldn't be loaded or something, not sure which site I downloaded it from though.

I shall have a look at the one that you mention and give it another go.

    Ta.

We have a kindle too and I prefer the way the nook displays the books, ie the kindle just shows a list of the titles that you have, the nook shows icons of the book covers which I prefer. I have so many freebie cook books on the kindle I can never remember which is which.
