Me - very fed up and upset with the Tax Credits Office once again!

Sent all of my information for the renewal and sent them evidence because I know they always get self employed claims wrong.

Reduced my payments now, despite the fact they should have been increased and it's clear that they didn't read or didn't bother to process anything that I sent them.

The award notices are being produced tomorrow and I guess I may get those in about 4 weeks time, well if I'm lucky.

Oh why do they do these things, now do I write back today and confirm the correct info, or do I await the award notices, or do I even bother to call to rectify the whole mess.

    Stressed. :-(

    AFTER I CALMED DOWN

I called them back and asked why.

So I'm told even though I sent them the correct figures and 15 pages of evidence to support my figures (all about self employment and losses) they still choose to take the figures from the HMRC Tax System and ignore everything I had put down - they did this because... I wasn't there to speak for myself and this could be an opportunity for fraud.

Now I'm wondering why I bother completing the form, when they just change it anyway.

    and

Why they don't bother to telephone me, if they can take my facts into account whilst I'm on the telephone.

    and

Why can't they read all of my evidence, including their very own Tax Return forms?

    ANGRY :-(

Would they not correct it on the phone today? They can change the figures before 31 July.

My understanding was that the income checks with the PAYE system were only for telephone renewals for this very reason.

Unfortunately if they won't change it over the phone, you will have to lodge an appeal against the notices when you get them.

    IQ
  • They did change it over the phone :-)

But I'm worried I'm now off to compliance (again)

The man told me that they are told now to "call though" which I thought was strange as I imagined he would have live access to the PAYE records.

Anyway he said call through and take all of the figures from their own systems.

He told me that they ignore they figures we enter and use their own. He stated that he was sorry it was wrong, he told me that sometimes they are because Tax Credits and Income Tax do not have the same rules and the system is based to use Income Tax Rules (Well I guessed it was because that's what it's meant for, not Tax Credits to use).

Anyway I just feel like my paper renewal was a waste of time and I could have called to renew 7 weeks earlier - compliance or not? Who knows.

Well all of my evidence was scanned on and it's there as he told me the correct figures as I didn't have my copy to hand - HOW MAD :-)

I was hoping somebody on this thread could help me with a problem I have, since you all seem quite knowledgeable on the whole tax credits front?

I received working tax credits between October 2012 and March 2013, due to supporting both myself and my fianc! for 6 months after I graduated and during her third year of university. I did the responsible thing and called HMRC to stop the tax credits once I no longer needed them.

I only just got a letter a couple of weeks ago asking me to provide figures for my earnings from 2012-2013. Received these in the post, then got told I needed 2011-2012 as well, so I've had to call HMRC and I'm waiting for this letter to arrive too (which by the way I think is ridiculous, that they can't just pass the information between departments).

If this doesn't arrive by 31st July, I'm told that the provisional charge they have will become an actual charge. I know for a fact that I haven't been overpaid in this period because I was on a very small wage and didn't work for the whole tax year because of graduation being so late, yet it is looking like I'm going to be asked to pay £200 that I don't owe.

Is there anything I can do until the letter arrives? Put a freeze on the payment becoming due?

After another 4 weeks of waiting for Tax Credits re look at my childcare after they reduced it, they have finally rung me today to confirm that my figures i quoted were correct for the previous year and they have now altered my weekley chidcare costs back to what they should be..

But need to get them to rectify the o/payment now as this was massivley out
  • Hi there not posted on here before although I regularly read posts I renewed my tax credits by phone on Wednesday 17th July on Friday 27th received 3 letters all provisional, 1 addressed to me and one to. My husband for last years claims saying it is being reviewed on the 2nd page says we need to sign our declarations the third letter is saying what provisional award will be for this tax year. The letters about last year still have the estimated figures on and not the figures I gave over the phone? My question. Is do j have complete the declaration do we both just sign the form and post back or do I have to fill the form in and sign and return as I have already given them the info over the phone? Thanks

Is there a 'quiet' time to phone the helpline? Have tried 5 times now and every time have been cut off after going through the lengthy menu system... 'favorite' responses have been 'not able to take your call right now' and 'if you are phoning about tax credits you need to dial 0345 300 3900' (which I was...) least favorite 'the crackle' which has you hanging on wondering whether you've been cut off or not... Am going stir crazy because my partner renewed by phone and they managed to muck it up by putting my income as his income and then demanded to know where that income had come from... I then phoned and put it right (over a month ago) and still have had no final decision for the year or my renewal amount... am worried they have mucked that up as well and will just cut our money. So stressed :(

Same thing keeps happening to me, I really don't mind being put on hold - but to keep being cut off is really annoying!

Finally got through but was listening to 'musique' for about 25 mins first which nearly drove me bonkers... My claim was processed today (what a coincidence lol) Good luck with yours!
  • Been trying since 9am to get through only to be cut off after a chargeable 3 min call! Fed up now and getting really angry after 4 wasted hours of my precious annual leave!! Gggrrrrrrr
