  • Thriftylass - YAY for your new notebook (:D - my name here is a clue as to why I would be excited about it too ;))...your list is pretty awesome too and has inspired me ahead of the new month.

LAGL- Sorry to hear about your news. It's always awful when someone passes, but I can imagine that people are having to deal with the shock as well as the grief. Hope that you are able to support your family & friends to get through it as well.

    Massive congratulations rosiecheeksbottom:T:T:T
There has been a lot of debt paid off this month...it's brill! It does act as a motivation to get myself sorted out and really start to smack those debts a bit harder.

Nothing new to report my end. I have treated (and been treated...courtesy of Sister's birthday am being taken for afternoon tea today :)) myself too excess this month, so will be trying to button down the hatch tomorrow to get ready for June. I have taken so much inspiration from this board that I need to be strict and stringent with budgets next month. A new leaf must be turned!

Kat, on payday friday someone does a breakfast run and usually we all get a bacon cob or full english or some sort from the local sandwich shop. Its something to look forward to at the end of the month.
Again I wont be on board with the challemnge in June, but I cant even find it has it been posted yet?

Why are you not joining in June?

    It's called "This is Sparta"..

Because I dont want to let everybody including myself down. I should get the c/c under the £2k mark within next couple of weeks.
We are still in the process of moving house so it would probably be impossible to keep up with the rules

I don't follow ALL the rules (ssshhh! Don't tell Kat but I never manage the SFDs target and I never eat all of my food before I go shopping as I'm a secret food hoarder) but they help to keep me focussed and keep within a budget.

Hope the house move goes well and good luck getting the CC under £2K

    Are you a doomsday prepper..:rotfl:
I can see the benefits of stocking up - unexpected guests / lunches for visiters / baking spree etc... I like to get strict so people actually think about what they have and prevent all out splurge bulk buys..I know you all don't eat down to the last crumb like me..
    I am a zombie day prepper...:T:T:T

No I'm not a doomsday prepper, I'm not that organised :rotfl:
My mum always has a freezer full and a cupboard full of tins and I remember my nan had a pantry full of tins and packets, it was like an Aladdin's cave. Maybe that's where it comes from. I like the comfort of knowing that if I ended up housebound for some reason I wouldn't starve or have to rely on Hubby to go shopping alone :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I must add I don't have months and months supply of food, maybe just a week's worth but I do stock up when brands I like are on offer.

I do that as well Hismisses, if anyone came here they would get fed, even a 3 course meal wouldn't phase me, and I live here on my own:rotfl:but come June Im determined to get the food under control as its my main spending, and I could really do with a cupboard in the kitchen to put my baking tins in, I also stock up on bargains I see, but only ones I will use but sometimes it doesn't get used for months:rotfl:

Anyway it wasn't a SFD for me, Rosie has eaten all her food so I had to get her some and some more lettuce whilst I was at it. I cant wait until Saturday for June to get under way, as hopefully it should be a good month for me.

I also take comfort in the cupboards having something to offer, I like to know I could whip up a cake or Spanish omelette etc for those unexpected guests who would never dare to turn up without calling anyway! Ha! Makes no sense but gives me comfort :)

AWOL most of this month and totally lost track but will work on figures and find the motivation to kick start June with positive mindset...

Yay to the debt busting, money mindfulness and general good behaviour! Kat I am exhausted after doing 7 extra shifts over three weeks so I can't comprehend where you get the energy from - you definately deserve a treat - if I was there I would have bought you the eggy bap :)

Bereavement however removed makes you take stock, a family member passed this month and although we were no longer close she was important in my upbringing. Her funeral made me realise life is precious. She never had much and struggled quite a bit and I now appreciate that even with the debt my hand of cards is a much easier play.

Decluttering is much needed here too - messy home, messy mind, messy finances! Must get on top and stay on top! Also seriously pondering living like a girl called jack for a few weeks to see if I can do it - would need to tweak to suit needs but very tempted!

May is always a tough month for me for reasons I won't bore you with but the thread made it bearable. Here's to June and frugal living in earnest!
Happiness is wanting what you have...
  • SFD for me... I went out with my £7 and still have £7 in my purse - even though I had to buy a bike lock for hubby. I've made him pay me back.
I've decided I'm taking dd for ice cream as our treat tomorrow. We have the most fantastic ice cream parlour nearby and I've had her at the docs today - she has raging tonsillitis and obviously that is the best thing for her. So a little treat for the both of us.
