Vent - babies on longnhaul flights

it is a more of a case of inconsiderate people in general than just about kids.
Quite right. I have come across some astoundingly rude people on board aircraft but you will see that anywhere. It's often the heady mix of unfamiliar territory, tiredness, stress and alcohol that makes people behave bizarrely - and kids can and will pick up on that.0 -

May have been an accident - streching my legs. Someone has done it to me for a while in a movie, I turned around and glared and they stopped I didnt frog march them out of there. If they had kept doing it I would have left the film for a minute and went to get the manager to remove them
It wasn't just one or two accidental knocks on the back of the seat, it was a constant tattoo of kicks, he stopped for a minute or so when I asked him to do so, then started again. As I stated earlier if I had got the manager - my word against his - My GF would have sided with me, his with him. He obviously though there was nothing I could do about it. his mistake his loss. It was not an assault. I don't know why you think me dropping my weight would have hurt him (or you) - It's just a way of sinking into my own centre of gravity meaning I don't have to use brute strength to move someone or stop them moving me.

Reading the legal guidance I would have classed it as assault - I suppose it could have been battery
Then you should have still got up and got a manager
If you just sunk into your own centre of gravity you woudlnt have moved me without hurting me

Edited to add both me and him were at the aisle end of our row, I was in the last row forward before the walkway bit.
Edited again to add -someone repeatedly deliberately kicking your chair is not trivial, it is unacceptable and causes discomfort. I can only assume you have never experienced it.
The couple who had seen the whole thing from the start - would they not have backed you up when the manager cameNeeding to lose weight start date 26 December 2011 current loss 60 pound Down. Lots more to go to get into my size 6 jeans0 -

Edited to add, there were no staff to be seen in the room and I could have been a fair while searching for the manager as he would have been hiding in his office behind locked security doors. Also to be honest as long as I did no permanent or lasting harm I really don't care if it hurt him a little bit for a minute or two - he made the choice to pick on a guy my size perhaps he understands the concept of consequences better now.

You have no right to hurt him for a minute or two - thats why its called assault.
The consequence of kicking the back of someones chair who is large and musclar isnt that you can assault them.
You had the right to go find a manager/member of staff. You dont get to hurt someone just because you felt he was annoying you on purpose because your bigNeeding to lose weight start date 26 December 2011 current loss 60 pound Down. Lots more to go to get into my size 6 jeans0 -

It was assault when he kicked my chair hard enough to hurt me.
I posted the legal definition of assault earlier. I didn't assault him - it does not just mean hurt someone and self defence is no offence.
He assaulted me and I dealt with it within the law. If he didn't like it he could have gone to the police, the manager, - but he would have then have had a counter claim from me and been in trouble himself for assaulting me. The police would most likely have just told us to stay away from each other and left it at that. If I had beaten him up or attacked him once I got him outside - that would have been assault - removing someone from your presence who is attacking you is not assault. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head.
