Oh believe me, you do.0 -
This is a circular argument and will no doubt run for another 16 pages of them who don't want kids / babies to travel on their flight and parents who want to have a holiday.
BOTH sides can be selfish and arrogant (depending on the individual) but children WILL travel so those who disapprove should buy decent noise cancelling headphones before they travel (as they KNOW a child screaming will annoy them whereas a child cannot predict if it will have sore ears, get sick etc).
Sitting tutting or throwing dagger looks isn't constructive either...if the parents are ignoring the child, then complain to the cabin staff and ask them to have a word or speak to the parents directly about it. Say you are concerned about the child and was wondering if it was OK. Yes, they may tell you to &£&@ off but then the rest of the passengers will be sympathetic to YOU as you've shown concern rather than contempt.0 -
This is becoming so very very boring.0

no-one seems to have come up with the simple solution of putting them in the hold with the luggage and pets,if the parents don't like it they can go in also...this then eradicates the noise and all are happy!0

The sound of a baby crying is horrible, for a lengthy period - torture. I flew last year (4 1/2 hours) for the first time in years as I hate planes with my DD who was 6, she didn't need to use the bathroom once (went before we boarded) wasnt standing in her seat etc. She sat down with her DS, and colouring books and pens, and probably slept for about 2 hours of it - - - The only time she moaned was when a child behind us started booting the seats, and his parents kept switching seats around so we all got a turn of his kicking grrrr
and when a baby started howling, she asked for her mp3 player as it annoying her. Babies cry, that's life, Id think there was seriously something wrong if one was screaming for 9 hours though :-/ Glad I wasnt on that plane!0 -
Just something to consider:
You all assuming the baby was crying for no reason.........
Colic is the medical term for excessive, frequent crying in a baby who appears to be otherwise healthy and well fed. It is a poorly understood yet common condition, and affects around one in five babies.A baby with colic will scream and draw up their legs, and may refuse to be comforted. It can be very distressing for parents, especially as the cause of colic is unknown and currently there is no cure for colic
(Copied from NHS online)
Just be thankful you only had 9 hours...... try having 6 months of it, then when your relationship is at breaking point you decided to go on a vacation to have some family time only to find some idiot on a plane making you feel even worse by shooting dirty looks and making horrible comments0 -
Let me just re iterate my position, I have no power to stop parents travelling with squalling babies or badly behaved children , equally, I cannot afford to travel first class on long haul, so I have to put up with them. I don't like it, I detest the selfish thoughtless parents, but I don't have the power to stop them from doing it- just don't ever look to me for sympathy, understanding or empathy because you won't be getting any.0

That is just showing consideration for others. Same as not using a 1000watt sound system in a flat.
No it's nothing like that at all. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
