    I've been Money Tipped!
My hands are fully up to being a selfish thoughtless parent who WANTS to take her kids on long haul flights. I used to be content with a Travelodge in Norwich for holidays, but having the kids made me consider how I could really make the most of the few weeks a year I don't work.

Glare at me all you want - I'll sit there on the plane smugly knowing I'm going to get all the enjoyment I want in my selfish way and getting a strange kick out of being so annoying to ILW those who think similarly to him/her.

Thanks for making my flying experience EVEN more fun. You know, I've only ever flown with small kids to annoy everyone else on the plane. I'm that selfish.

It's a case of controlling your children, the ones that scream blue murder tend to be the ones controlling their parents. Still, Give me a screaming child any day over inconsiderate smokers in restaurants.
No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

Thanks to everyone who posts competitions. You are the stars of the board :T:j:T

I have been exposed to screaming kids occasionally and some were so loud I wonder if they are a danger to hearing. Perhaps a decibel meter would be useful on a plane to measure the noise from a screamer and keep a record of the readings and the bring an action against the airline or kids owner.
A quick fix would be a expanded polystyrene bucket placed over the screamers head this would no doubt attenuate the noise to safe levels.

Smokers in restaurants? In the UK? It's been banned for over 5 years now.

In my experience, a baby screaming blue murder is in pain.

I don't think children need to be "controlled" more to be guided into what is approriate behaviour. Which includes knowing how to behave on public transport, in restaurants and the like.

I've gone on holiday with my DD since she was born. Flying, speedboats, water-taxis, taxis, trains, trams, you name it and she's done it. Has never turned a hair, she just grabbed her little case on wheels and off she went. Get on a plane and she would go to sleep; we had a bag of new stuff to do (pad, colour pencils, stickers etc, DS and games) but she rarely used them, as she enjoyed sleeping! Most disappointing as I wanted to help with the stickers. :p

We've also taken her to eat in many restaurants so she knows how to behave in those situations.

Kind of hard educating a 6 month old to that standard though!

Everyone is going on about flying with kids being inconsiderate to other passengers. What about people who have irritating laughs, snore, chew too loudly, cough incessantly etc? Are they too not being inconsiderate?

We all have things that annoy us. We will all likely annoy another person no matter how perfect and considerate we think we are. It appears to be human nature.

Im starting to dread going on holiday next month, I never realised so many folk hate children. My little one is nearly 2 and shes normally really good but shes never been on a plane before and i'm worried she will get bored.

I have downloaded peppa pig to my phone and have brought a toy, hopefully folk will appreciate that i'm trying

    A thousand times yes!
I used to take my dd to restaurants (proper ones not pub grub with ball pits & playgrounds) from toddler age.
    She learnt acceptable behaviour.
It never occurred to me I shouldn't have taken her on a plane.

Our 3 year old has been on 5 or 6 long haul round trips in both economy and business class to the USA and South Africa as well as 3 short haul flights. She's generally extremely well behaved but even the best get tired and irritable - just like adults - on a long haul flight.

Have to say that the attitude of other passengers has generally been great. Also any preconception of business class passengers been particularly objectionable has been utterly disproved as our fellow travellers have always been friendly to her from the lounge to arrival at the destination. Maybe it is the extra room and noise-cancellation headphones!

I was sat next to a miserable bit when I took my 7 month old to Majorca a few years ago. We got on the plane, into our seats and I had an aisle seat with him on my lap and this couple in the 2 seats next to me.
I smiled as I sat down, and she turned to her partner and said 'ugh typical she's got a baby'. Charming I thought.

Darling son, fell asleep as we taxied up the runway and stayed asleep right through landing, through the long corridors of Palma airport - hubby's and mine arms were dead by the time we got the pushchair back!

Anyway, she turned her back throughout the flight making it hard for me to move with sleeping baby and made as many trips to the loo that she could so I'd have to keep passing sleeping babe across the aisle to hubby and get up to let her out. I couldnt believe how difficult she was - and this was a mature lady who probably had kids of her own.

As we got off the plane, with still sleeping babe I turmed to her and said 'actually the baby was better behaved than you were' and gave her a filthy look. What a bch...
