Vent - babies on longnhaul flights

Whilst it's true that if a fully laden A380 crashed killing all on board it would kill more than any other aircraft you have to bear in mind that fewer flights are required to transport the same number of people so it all evens out in the end.
You should also bear in mind that the certification requirements for aircraft have been evolving continuously and were considerably more stringent when the A380 was certified than they were when, for example, the first 747 was. As such an A380 should be quite a bit safer than most 747's.There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
CBA to read all 11 pages of the thread but I think people have been a bit harsh with the OP, I think he/she has a valid point.
There is absolutely no need for a child to scream and scream for 9 hours, there is clearly some sort of parenting issue there and it is not right that anyone should be subjected to that. If I had a child and it screamed for the whole flight I would be terribly embarrassed but people just do not care these days.
I would suggest a pair of fine noise cancelling headphones and something to listen to to the OP for future long haul flights, invaluable.0 -
without trying to sound patronising whitesatin, thats too common a reaction. "ive travelled - my kids never made a noise". Unf if you fly a lot, for me its at least twice a week, every so often there will be screaming kids and snoring suits and farting fat folk. no one ever accepts any blame.
People not reasonably controlling themselves or their kids, should be shoved out of the overwingsbut public transport is by its very nature public. and unf if we are to use it, we have to put up with some of the insufferable oafs who also do
I would be going out of my mind if I let things bother me to that extent. I generally keep myself to myself but could get annoyed on a daily basis by the behaviour of other people. E.g. OH and I talk to each other in restaurants but there is always a noisy group next to us who don't give a damn about disturbing others. I like to sit on the patio but have next door neighbour's cigarette smoke/bbq blowing in my direction. I go shopping and almost get knocked off my feet by kids on bikes/skateboards when they shouldn't be doing that. I get on public transport and someone is eating fast food, the smell of which turns my stomach.
I could go on but I think you get my drift. OK, whilst not on a plane I can walk away but life can be irritating if you let it. We just have to tolerate each other and that is it.0 -

Let me guess - you don't have children, do you?0 -
I flew back from Singapore in a Quanta A380 recently, it was jam packed, and although the two ladies travelling in my row were lovely, it was a really unpleasant, horrible flight. in contrast, my flight out to Singapore was with BA in an old 747 and it was very nice indeed.0

I live and work overseas and my 7 year old is a seasoned traveller. We'll be moving back to the UK later this year - shame it seems to have even more child haters than when we left 13 years ago. My youngest has never been to the UK - I suspect some of you think I should leave him behind until he grows up before daring to let him on a plane.
Miserable sods.0 -

Just the minority, emmbrook. Most people are tolerant in my opinion. Anyway, it is their problem. I am sure your 7 year old will be welcomed.0 -
Britain ruled to world with an attitude that children should be seen and not heard. All gone downhill since we have become so "tolerant".0
