Vent - babies on longnhaul flights

No it's not arrogant at all to expect all people who don't have small children to have a pleasant experience when flying. Not sure how it is arrogant to want this nice experience for, not only me, but for fellow passengers who don't have small children.
Passengers who do have small children shouldn't fly. Ever, for any reason. I think that's just polite!
Fixed that for you.
My point was that you're being rather hypocritical. Accusing HiToAll of being arrogant because they won't be considerate of other people (or rather, their small child might not be)... and then saying that you'd like to exclude a whole group of people from flying. That's not very considerate of you. Remember that the parents of the children have also paid for their tickets. They're entitled to fly from A to B, just as much as you are.
IMO there's a big difference in the behaviour I expect of children who are old enough to sit quietly when told to, and babies who don't understand why their ears hurt on take-off.
In my NCT group, two families took their children on flights when they were <1 yr old. Both were to visit family in other countries who had never met the child, and both sets of parents worried about it for weeks beforehand.
Not sure what the OP's OH hoped to achieve with a 'disapproving look'. If the baby had been crying for 9 hours, it's likely that the parents were already doing everything they could to quieten it down. If my baby had ever cried for 9 hours straight, I would be beside myself with worry.Mortgage when started: £330,995

I'm still waiting guys?
Well you said 3 was too young and 10 was an age you suggested. By all means share with us the age you believe a child should be allowed to fly?
I see no posts where you offer a different figure to 10 therefore as that is the age you've suggested I assume that is your target age! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Oh I see, so you are making stuff up and throwing accusations at me? :T0 -
Oh. Please forgive me. Where have I said that anyone should be banned from flying?
Noisy children are on your no fly list so I am assuming anyone who may make a noise is.....This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

So again, making stuff up because you think I am in the wrong.
I will try and make this as simple as possible for everyone to comprehend.
- I do not believe in banning anyone from flights, everyone has the right to fly.
- I do believe everyone should be entitled to a safe and pleasant journey.
- I think parents should take responsibility for the children. Children do not have to fly (although notanewuser doesn't seem to think that this is the case)
- There are plenty examples of parents on this thread (including experiences I have had) where their children have been extremely well behaved. As I said quite a few times now, I do not have a problem with this.bylromarha wrote: »Our now 8 year old DS had a fantastic time travelling New Zealand aged 15months.
Our then 2 year old can remember so many details of the Maldives holiday we took. She even remembers her 3rd birthday in the plane as she had cakeDS was complemented by the travellers sitting next him on the way home. They couldn't believe how well behaved he was.
Don't underestimate them. Travel has done wonders for our kids. The memories stay with them from a young age and they live up to your expectations of them when travelling.
Can you tell I back Marley all the way on this one?
As above, this I fully accept and think is great that bylromarha has done such a great job in bringing up well behaved children. So what age?
The age where parents have got decent knowledge that their children are able to behave and control. There is no "number" age for this.0 -
I did not call you (or anyone else) an idiot because they disagreed with me. I called people a name because the responses I was getting was not in debate, they were in sarcasm, rudeness and accusations of lying. Would you not expect that response?
I have not said I deserve more right to travel. Please please for goodness sake read my posts. I have not at all said I should have rights over a baby or a child on a flight. What I should be allowed is the peace of flying, just as any other passenger.
If your baby was sleeping, would it be right for me to scream and shout at the top of my voice. Would that not be extremely rude?
People have made valid points, and no, I would not expect that response from an adult. Emphasis given because it is you that is acting like a child.
If you don't think you have more right to travel, why have you called notanewuser 'arrogant' and said they have a '!!!! attitude' because they choose to travel with a young child? Why is their choice so selfish?Yes exactly my point, arrogant. You want to do something and you don't care about other people to get what you want.
Perhaps you should apply this to yourself?0 -

You appear to be changing your tune.....
A few posts back you were advocating that a mother should stay in America with her baby to avoid getting on an 8 hour flight.....
For someone who doesn't believe in banning people from flights you've certainly got strong views on who should be allowed to flyThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

No. I called notanewuser arrogant because they had said that they don't care for fellow passengers if their child is making noise. Not because they wanted to take their child on a flight.0
