Ahhhhhhhhh the Lupset estate- largest council estate in the UK- all satelite dishes, Christmas light central and not a job amongst them!!

Sure Lupset is not the largest, sure its one in Hull. just checked:

"Bransholme is widely, but mistakingly, believed to be largest council estate in Europe, a title more likely to be held by Becontree in Dagenham.[citation needed]"

bars will be good with hot and cold running vomit. The new market will sell the same rubbish as the old one does which is why no-one visits it. The Westgate run is a dodge the drunks, cops, druggies, loony taxis, massed shriekers experience of a lifetime.
My friendly cop advised the only places to avoid were those with a WF postcode.

Hey i live in a WF postcode!

Your right though, Westgate does seem to have an higher proportion of idiots than most plaes. Could be because in wakey its all on one street pretty much (including side streets). Where as most places of its size its a bit more spred out therefore the drunks looking for a fight are less likley to bump into each other.

One think i like about a night out in Wakey is the taxies are cheap as chips. Live in Thornhill, Dewsbury. About equal distance to wakey and huddersfield from my place, taxi home from hudds around £20, wakey under £15.

    Back to the threads topic:

Agree with most of the places mentioned both pro and anti.
Hi there! We’ve had to remove your signature. It was so good we removed it because we cannot think of one so good as you had and need to protect others from seeing such a great signature.

Having experienced life, but not as we know it Jim, in both HU and WF postcode areas they're a dead heat, with the Humber bridge only being built so people could escape more easily to civilisation.
Why anyone would want to move from the golden triangle to either of the above black holes is a mystery.

Been to both- they are doing something about Bransholme now- its getting better- honest!
Lupsett needs a kick up the !!!! and major renovation!

I live midway between Wakey and Leeds- Rothwell- and rarely head Wakey way for a night out- and never to Cas-Vegas or Ponte-Carlo (been to both once)
I'll stick with Leeds if i can!

One thing that Wakefield does have going for it....

Its not huddersfield, the town under the shadow of mount doom, The local paper does a "Pride in Huddersfield" thing, an oxymoron if I ever heard one. The only thing that would improve that town is a mushroom cloud.

We moved to Kirkhamgate 5 years ago cos we couldn't afford Sandal or Horbury :o But y'know, I actually really love it here, it's so peaceful, I can see fields out of the window as I type, I'm an accepted part of the local dog walking community...!! Heh.

2 mins up the road from me then! I like Kirkhamgate, lots of my school friends lived up there and I grew up in Wrenthorpe.

If I am feeling energetic I always walk up Batley Road towards Kirkhamgate. Its good as it give you the taste of the countryside without being too far away from the shops!!!!
2010 is the year of bargain shopping! Time to money save, exercise and plan! I like to keep busy :)

I can sum Huddersfield up easily, ever seen League of gentlemen? That would be an accurate reflection of the outlying villages, especially the colne valley.

Its a shame, as at one time, Huddersfield had more millionaires per capita than anywhere else in the world, but then the bulk of engineering and textiles businesses went out the window.

We've been using UpMyStreet to get an idea of neighbourhoods and crime rates, but I think that can be misleading sometimes, or maybe out of date.

If I put just the first part of the post code, or the town, I get one information, if I put the full postcode, another. And with the full PC sometimes you get an information of "low income" when you can clearly see that the building/development is for people with higher income.

I guess it's really a question of "seeing to get the feeling".
Hopefully we'll be able to do it this weekend or the next :)
