This is a pretty accurate description of Huddersfield

!!!!!! - I can take a joke but thats too far! Huddersfield & Proud!

In answer to the OP I'd look at Mirfield, Holmfirth, and the towns between Huddersfield & Leeds. These are all on the train line to York and are usually within 20 minutes drive of Huddersfield & Leeds.

I live in Pontefract have done all my life, live on the South side which is on the road to Doncaster, lovely and very quiet part of town, work in Leeds and the Traffic on the M62 can be a real mare so that might put you off with you having to travel to Huddersfield, brother lives in a village called Brockholes, lovely little village just outside another lovely village called Honely, which are within 10 mins from the Centre of Huddersfield.

As for Cas,only good thing about that place is the Road out of it. LOL

Problem with Leeds, is all the good areas are expensive, Chapeltown anyone?
Bradford, is a Hell hole, great for asian food shopping though.
Huddersfield, great Town, shame about the inbred, alcoholic, drug addled neds that inhabit the town.

Stay in York, you wont regret it.

Denby Dale's the posh bit - rumour has it that all the birds** there have correctly-spelled tatoos...

**birds=ladies of the opposite gender, not the ornithologically interesting species.

    Hey there

I am from Wakefield have lived here all my life, I think like with alot of the places in and around here there are good and bad pockets within these towns and cities (I am sure its the same across the country!).

If you want any guidance on places to live around Wakefield send me a PM. I live in Alverthorpe which is ok, not that expensive and close to both junctions 40 and 41. This is close to Wrenthorpe which is classed as being nice - in and around here is Kirkhamgate, Carr Gate and Ossett. All nice places to live, near the motorway and fairly quiet with the exception of Ossett which is a little town.

Places inbetween Wakefield and Huddersfield are all really nice, like Middlestown but its getting into the countryside there so gets a bit expensive.

As I say need any more info about that area that PM me. Happy to advise and help :D
2010 is the year of bargain shopping! Time to money save, exercise and plan! I like to keep busy :)

We used to live in Dewsbury so anything's an improvement :D

Kidding!!! There are still some nice places in Dewsbury, don't shoot me. Where we used to live went really downhill though.

We moved to Kirkhamgate 5 years ago cos we couldn't afford Sandal or Horbury :o But y'know, I actually really love it here, it's so peaceful, I can see fields out of the window as I type, I'm an accepted part of the local dog walking community...!! Heh.

So, yes. Parts of West Yorkshire do come as a shock to the sense to the uninitiated... specially from York!! But it's like everywhere, good parts and bad parts. A drive round most places can give you a feel for it :)

How do you pick up the threads of an old life? How do you go on... when in your heart, you begin to understand. There is no going back. There are some things that time cannot mend... some hurts that go too deep. That have taken hold.

Go Pauper Princess, Wakey is on the up big time, lots of new developments by the River including art gallery, shops, bars etc, The market hall is about to be flattened and re-built who wouldnt be charmed after doing the Westgate run.

Before I moved there, I quizzed a cop, and he advised the only places top avoid were Lupset & Agbrigg.
