You're right about Halifax there. Stick to the areas you talk about and it's hard to go wrong.
Sowerby Bridge is where I was a teen, and I'm astounded by how gentrified it's become - very nice down there now, though some of the terrace housing area is still a bit rough around the edges, but there are really none of the "no-go areas in this little town".
That isn't something I can say about BrighouseI take exception at the much earlier comment that Whinney Hill Park is nearly in Hipperholme. The good folk of there and Lightcliffe would no doubt like to put a fence up and keep that place in Brighouse where it belongs :rotfl:
Don't know if it's still the case, but if you weren't originally from Brighouse, then you'd find yourself very quickly in a fight in the pubs there. Bunch of inbreds.
Ripponden is a weird sort of place. Very nice, but it's like a timewarp, plus many inhabitants don't appreciate outsiders. Couple of pubs down in that village are like walking into the pub in American Werewolf in London.
Saturday night in Sowerby Bridge can be like a scene from Shameless. Particularly around once certain pub opposite the church.
Eastern Halifax tends to be really nice. Shibden, Claremount, Northowram, Stump Cross, Hipperholme and Lightcliffe. The latter has a weird council estate in the middle but you don't really notice it, and you can always just pretend that bit is really BrighouseUsed to be under the old Brighouse council, but it's Halifax really, get your thieving mitts off it hehe
Brighouse is much nicer than Halifax. Whinney Hill Park is one small area. Brighouse town centre on a night does have a reputation, but I don't know why. Hove Edge is nice, Woodhouse and Huddersfield road. South of Brighouse is very nice, Clifton is lovely. Brighouse house prices are much higher than Halifax, what does that tell you? There is only a couple of areas that are not middle class and I am originally from St Annes on sea, believe me I know posh! It is no St Annes admittedly. Whinney Hill Park is virtually Lightcliffe, Baliff Bridge, yes Hipperholme is slightly further across, but it is closer to Hipperholme than Brighouse. The area of Brighouse that we lived in is very middle class. How can you say Huddersfield Rd is not nice ?0 -
I know large parts of it are a dive but i am looking more and more at the Barnsley area, seem to get a lot for your money there.Hi there! We’ve had to remove your signature. It was so good we removed it because we cannot think of one so good as you had and need to protect others from seeing such a great signature.0

New to this thread, loved reading itWhitechapel, Leeds.
It all happens there, a throbbing, cosmopolitan boulevard
Where the heck is Whitechapel? I've lived in Leeds all my live and never heard of it?findingmyownway wrote: »Wetherby? - pretty town yet very close to A1 for access to both places
Agree here, Wetherby is lovely, and very convenient for A1.
Garforth is nice too and also nr M1/M62
If you want to live in Leeds then stick to North Leeds, Chapel Allerton, Moortown, Roundhay altho pricey now.
Harrogate is gorgeous but very expensive.0 -

Well, there is a Whitechapel Close but I think Rover has got confuddled and he actually means Chapeltown, although that's less a Boulevard and more an area, as you'll know
Hmmm I suspected he meant Chapeltown, but if you're going to slag somewhere off then at least get the name right :rotfl:
Lots of trendy young professionals moving into the northern edge of Chapeltown that borders Chapel Allerton, which is v expensive now.
Maybe Rover's getting his 'Rippers' mixed up .....Jack the Ripper = Victorian Whitechapel London area, Yorkshire Ripper = Chapeltown in the 70's (amongst other Yorkshire/Lancashire areas) :eek:0 -
