I believe the OP has found somewhere as his profile does say West York's. It would be nice to know where he decided on !
Since you're interested (although I think she's already posted the result somewhere along the thread), we found a new flat right in Huddersfield, 10 mins by foot from my work (I'm the gf).
We're really enjoying itBeing brave is going after your dreams head on0 -
My GF and I are considering moving to Yorkshire for her career.
We are looking for a quiet village or town that is within 2 miles of a well serviced train station, a 40 minutes ride to Leeds Train Station and a 35 minute drive to St James Hospital Leeds.
We are trying to avoid anywhere close to the centre of larger towns and cities such as Barnsley, Bradford, Castleford, Halifax, Leeds, Wakefield ect.
So far we are considering:
Carr Gate
Garforth
Harrogate
Knaresborough
Micklefield
&
Rothwell / Woodlesford
We'd appreciate feedback on these options and any other suggestion you have.
Thanks so much friendly Yorkshire! :T

Hi Danny,
I have lived in Woodlesford/Oulton all my life and it's a lovely place to live the amenities are very good in the surrounding area such as good shops, train station, good bus route, sports centre, schools, health centres and there are sports clubs for cricket, rugby and football. Woodlesford is about 5 miles from leeds, Wakefield and Castleford so its pretty central, it's quite a picturesque village and plenty of good walks and pub's that serve great food & drink after your walk:beer: and its not far to stagger home from them:rotfl: , I love living here it's really nice hope you find somewhere.....come and live in Woodlesford you wont regret it! happy house hunting.0 -
Hey midwife_twinkie
Thank you so much for your reply.
There's one or two Woodlesford properties on Rightmove, which look nice.

this thread has interested me greatly as my daughter and i intend to study at huddersfield university from 2010. there are so many negative comments on here which are perhaps a little unfair as many towns have their fair share of problems.
we are looking to rent in the town before putting our money down to buy. could anyone please get in touch and suggest areas of the town that have good transport links to the university and that two women living alone would feel safe and secure.
thanks.0 -

Its not just Barnsey. Nearly every city and suburb of scummy Britain is blighted with bars/clubs/pubs/cheap shops/nail technicians/tanning parlours and fast food shops selling sh&te0 -

Hi, we (original poster and I) live right next to the University, on a rented flat. There are 4 different buildings and the sizes vary quite a lot, so I'd advise you to go and check.
I quite like living here, and we walk everywhere: to work, into town (5 mins to the high street), 5 mins to the supermarket, 10/15 mins to the train station (main line between manchester - leeds - york).Being brave is going after your dreams head on0
