  • I got my knock back letter just a couple of days before Martin's Money Saving email. I didn't know what to do about it and was thinking about giving up. The account I am claiming for is a joint account with my ex husband that I had cleared the overdraft of. If I get anything at all of the £459 it will help me in shaking off the marital debt! Thanks to the insider who let Martin know.

    Hi there,

Didn't know about the ombudsman and now halifax have decided to defend in court, has anyone out there had any experience of this, bit worried and don't fancy the prospect of going to court against a big institution!

thanks rusky. I too received an incredibly less than half of what i wanted into my account the same day as receiving the letter. I rang, asked them to increase it, they did but not by much, so told them if they didnt meet my expectations then its to the courts. So i will write to them and tell them that i accept this first offer without prejudice and will claim the later payment after the court case has been settled.

This post is worth duplicating for people who are phoning up on Monday.

Do make sure that you confirm with the bank in writing that you are accepting their offer in part payment and without prejudice and will be proceeding with a further claim at a later stage.

This bank is honouring offers made before yesterday's news, however NO case currently waiting to reach the stage of an offer will be dealt with until after the test case is completed.

Also, HBoS is NOT closing any customers account for claiming back bank charges. However, if it is repeatedly shown that you cannot manage your account after a claim has been settled, then the bank will look at it again.

Fairplay to HBOS for clarifying the position. Grudgingly!
I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....
