Hi
I spoke to Steve on the 01977 number on Wednesday and he said he would get a letter out to me within a couple of days. Sure enough I received an offer this morning of £1300 which is half of what I am claiming. Should I take this offer or try and negotiate? I dont want them to withdraw the offer as I cant really afford to go to court and im a bit scared! lol What should I say when I phone up?
Thanks for all your help.0 -

Hello, the first letter on this thread is correct and by following the advice it gave me a renewed interest in making sure my money was in its rightful place, my purse not theirs, so after receiving the knockback letter declining my claim, I rang back a week past Monday and asked for it to be re-evalued, I would be prepared to wait only one week then I would persue the Ombudsman. One week passed I called the HBOS (Halifax Bank of Scotland), and spoke to a really nice young man, who was thoroughly naffed off with being sworn at and belittled.."oh dear I feel so sorry for you was my reply ..can we get this sorted out as soon as so, I am one less person to deal with and I am out of your hair for good" Yeah fine was his reply I will pass on your details to the emergency team, who will send you out a letter with an offer on it before the end of the week,BUT it will only be 50% of what you are asking for, so here's the good bit.. You call them on the number on the letter, and tell them you are declining their offer but as a gesture of goodwill you are prepared to accept ( whatever you are prepared to accept) in my case it was 80% and I was happy.so I said £2800 instead of £3400 would be fine thanks. The chap informed me before I called to try and have a reasonable figure without being to pushy/greedy and they will settle over the phone with you almost immediately. They did and thanks to his advice I can pass on to others in the same position...dont give up but be prepared to have a sensible figure ready as they might put you on the spot so have your sums all worked out before you speak to them. Good luck ..my claim never went anywhere near the court or ombudsman, but patience is required.0

I was given a 50% offer on Wed last week. So I phoned to negotiate a higher figure but was told i needed to talk to the person who wrote the letter. I am finding this impossible as nobody knows which office Sarah Molson works in all they can do is send her an E-Mail and hope she phones me which she hasn't!!!!!!!!! Surely somebody else working for HBOS can sort out my claim?????

Hi all
Am claiming (or in the process of) for three Halifax accounts - 2 of OHs and mine own one.
Account 1: claiming £3523.
Sent initial letter, then second letter. Got the "we're declining your complaint" letter. Rang for re-evaluation. 3 weeks after ringing for re-evaluation, got letter through post with "gesture of goodwill offer" for 51% of claim. This arrived this last Wednesday. OH spoke to 01977 number (a lovely man!) and offer upped to £3k - OH said he waslooking for somewhere nearer original claim amount and all was settled for £3500. The initial half offer already in the bank and the other bit on its way!! :T
Account 2: claiming £1500
first letter sent - nothing heard. Second letter sent - have checked online banking today and half the claim amount has already been deposited (today, Sunday..??) so am guessing there is a letter on its way. We will call when this arrives and get it raised to somewhere near claim amount.
My account - claiming £2500
first letter sent and received the declining complaint letter. Rang for re-evaluation and this is in progress at the moment.
So, upshot being we have received, since Friday (!) £2659 from the Halifax from a total claim of £5000......and the rest will be coming!!
KEEP ON TRYING GUYS --- it does work!!

hi hope someone can help or give advice
i am trying to reclaim £700 (including interest) from Abbey, they delayed me for two month but i finnally sent a letter two weeks ago stating that if they didn't refund i would take legal action. I recieved a letter a couple of days ago from them saying they wouldn't give me the money and that the charges are lawful...what do i....do i still press a head with small claims court...is this just scare tactics from them.
thanks to whoever can advise john0
