Rang the 01977 number and spoke to Ronnie and explained I was not happy with the offer of £1859 (Claimed for £3000) He said he would get Nick to ring me back as he was dealing with my case.
He did ring me back this morning and offered me £2000 or maybe £2100, I said I would be happy to take £2500 and he said Ok, it will be paid into my account within the next 5 working days.....success.
Thanks to everyone for advice and encouragement.
DON'T GIVE UP. :T0 -
I was sent a standard decline offer on tuesday, rang the number, they asked what were my intentions, I said I would update the ombudsman, and if necessary take them to court. I then faxed over my intention, and phoned to see if they recieved my fax, I spoke to person on my letter he said he got my fax and to call him the next day to discuss. I did. He said he had written to me and wanted me to read the letter before I took action....Still waiting for the letter. I am sure it will turn up but we all know what the post is like, worse next week to.
I recieved a letter from the ombudsman today the contents of which are below, I thought it may give a little hope to us all. Cheers dreamuk

I am writing to update you as to progress regarding your complaint.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

The bank may have told you that – in its view – the charges it has made to your account were levied fairly in accordance with its tariff. It does not appear to have made an offer that fully meets what you have asked for. I have therefore written to the bank to invite it to:
- make an offer which meets your claim in full; or
- provide me with the information I believe I shall need to reach a conclusion on the merits of your claim.
As you may know, in almost all the charges complaints we have considered, banks have made offers to meet the claim, and it has not been necessary for us to issue any decisions yet. I will let you know as soon as Halifax Plc tells me whether it is prepared to settle your claim; I will explain the next steps when I have heard from the bank. If I have not heard within six weeks, I will write to tell you."

Hey,
I received an email from the Ombusman yesterday informing me that they had sent me a letter which said that the bank are prepared to give me all my charges back...............yay:j £2200, was not expecting that at all. I sent off my first letter to the bamk at the start of April, followed by a second one, then got rejection letter, then phoned for a re-evaluation and was dealing with the lovely Ronnie. I also got the Ombusman invoved, at the banks suggestion!! The FO said it could take a couple of months for them to sort it out but it only really took 3 weeks max'. It feels so good, I wish I could go back and time and have never got the charges in the first place but it was a period in my life I would never go back to therefore this money means so much!!!
Thank you to Martin and everyone on the site as it is 100% down to this site that I got my money back.
Cheers

have been trying to reclaim £920 inc interest. after sending second letter they have now written and offered £420.
But is this a new tactic - in the letter they put they will put the money in my account with in 14 days if I don't want it I have to phone and give it back! Very clever. money appeared after a few days much to my surprise.
Should I phone and try to negotiate higher settlement? or just continue with letters as per next step going to court?
They also suggest going to ombudsman should I try that before court letter?
oooh how confusing! any words of avice please?0 -
I'm a bit confused now. Don't know if anyone has come across this problem before.
I just called and spoke to a guy called Tony who increased my offer of £1300 to £2627.50. They claim this is ALL my charges over 6 years. My initial claim was £3224.50 (over 5 years coz of Scottish Law). This was calculated from a list of charges which THEY sent me. Anyone else ever come across this ?
I told them I would accept the amount on the proviso I could query the discrepancy in the amounts and proceed to claim the rest if necessary.
The guy who dealt with the claim is going to call me back afternoon - allegedly.0 -

Thats what I got, just after I started judgement, they offered me 1392.50 I rang them and they rang me back yesterday offering me 2700, to which I said I might of accepted but the judgment has been sent already, well just checked my account and the initial 1392.50 is in my account, so now I just havent a clue what to do, surely they have the judgement and have to pay full amount or is there another way they can get out of it, I darent touch the money what is in my account even though I am desperate, can any one give me advice thanks Pete0 -
OK. Victory at last. Turns out the Halifax was right ... they suggested the amount I claimed compared to what THEY had working out was different due to them sending duplicate pages in my list of charges ! Stupidly enough though they actually ended up offering me MORE than the amount of charges ! Only about £100 extra but hey - I'm not complaining. I've settled finally on £2627.50 in full and final settlement. Due in next week.
Thanks to EVERYONE on these forums. This money will make a big difference to me. It's been less than 4 weeks since I started this process and next week the money will be in my account. Fantastic result.
Virtually ALL my calls have been made to the 01977 number... I was always polite and chatty and I got great results. Thanks to anyone who answers that phone too.0 -
Hi,
i never logged on but i read all the posts for help.
I sent the original claim on the 25th of may, got the standard decline, sent a new letter to appeal on the 5th june. I just got the offer of £720 - pretty good when i only asked for £550. Not sure why but i think i'll accept somehow.
Thanks everyone this forum's been really useful.0 -
YES!!! Got letter this morning with an offer for 50% of my claim!! It's Saturday and office is closed...so I will have to wait until Monday before I can negotiate. Still, this is already fantastic news as I thought that I would never have seen this money again. Have called friends and family to tell them and to let them know that it REALLY does work! Will post again on Monday to let you all know what final offer is! But hang in there to anyone thinking that there is no hope!!0
