Like macman says, your house is the food source so -
Watch your kitchen surfaces, never leave any grains of sugar, or sweep any
crumbs from your surfaces onto the floor. Keep any food in airtight containers,
that'll cap the little bustards lol
OMG, i am going to have nightmares tonight.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

I found them on the kitchen windowsill and worktop a few days ago, finally found they were getting in through a small crack between the window frame and the tiles, so filled the crack with decorator's caulk and touch wood have seen none since. For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong.0

I've always found the powder works best. I apply it all around the edges of the room (kitchen in my case) and they don't come back till next year, so I repeat the process.0

Thanks all for the tips, will need to check for cracks, is it ok to put powder in the house aswell as outside? If you think nobody cares if you're alive, try missing a couple of car payments.;)

Thank god for this thread! We have never, never before had a problem with ants, although we have seen a nest outside before but we quickly sorted this out. Then came in one day to find ants in a kitchen cupboard - they were not there the previous day, but suddenly loads of them in my food cupboard.
We have cleared the cupboard of food, thrown any half opened packets away (pasta etc) and as it was early evening on a bank holiday we were left to just cleaning the cupboard with a bleach spray until the next day. I spent half the night in the kitchen just trying to see where they were coming from and although the odd one appeared they were never in the same place so found it very difficult to see where they are coming from.
There is a slight crack in the corner of the wall underneath the cupboard, so am I best doing the bait thing to kill the nest before I fill in this gap or should I just fill the crack with a sealant straight away? I have read somewhere that is they are nesting in the cavity that they can cause some serious building damage0 -
it gets worse! Put the bait down and washed the area where they were seen with bleach and thought there we go - this morning went into the cupboard where I store bread etc and there are loads in there! There was no ants in that cupboard yesterday at all, this cupboard is used so often in the day that if there were any in there previously they would have been noticed0
