Ants getting into the house! (merged threads)

Hiya all, It seems we like many other people have problems with Ants. Only in our case theres no sign of any nest? we've looked everywhere possable and can confirm there isn't an ant nest outside.
We have the unwelcome intruders everywhere, we have a two story house, they get everywhere, downstairs, upstairs, including the kitchen, living room, toilet/bathroom, their on the walls, ceilings, on shelfs you name their there.
BUT they aren't in large amounts, not 1,000s (yet) its just several ants coming from nowhere that seem lost!!
If there was 1,000s of them we'd find the nest and be able to tackle the problem, but there is no nest that we can find..... !!
Maybe there are one or more nests in the cavity walls??"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -

No more ants since they were used.

Is it okay to use this in our larder ? We have had some ants , and just want to stem the tide. They seem to like our opened cat food !
It does mention something about food on the intrsuctions but its not clear.
Luckily because were not getting loads of ants yet, i cant see where theyre coming in, but i will place the trap at least 50cms away from any wrapped food (eg opened biscuits / bread)0 -
Ants are burrowing through the mortar in my brick wall and around an ntl 'lid' in the pavement. There are also small holes when the wall meets the pavement.
I've tried blocking the holes with exterior caulk, and applying ant powder (from B&Q etc.), but they simply continue to make holes elsewhere in the wall.
My question: How can I get rid of the ants, for once and for all?!0 -
Wilko ant and crawling insect killer 1 ltr spray is much more effective than ant powder. Buy 4 and spray generously and frequently. Lift the lid of the manhole cover - you might find the nest with lots of eggs there, so spray that before replacing the lid, too.0

Hi again, I've tried ant bait / stations - and the ants are still there! They are still busy making holes where the path and brick wall meet near ground level. I am unable to open up the old NTL 'manhole' thing on the pavement - it seems secured.
Any ideas on dealing with this? Should I be seeking a 'professional' service in the Yellow Pages? Would NTL (i.e. Virgin Media) be willing to assist?? I', desperate to get rid of them - it's an infestation!0 -
I heard that overall ants are good clean living insects that kill nasty parasites etc.
Maybe you should just become friends..........Instigated terrorism the road to dictatorship.0 -
We've had ants coming into the house for the past few weeks, coming in through a hole in the skirting board in the hall. I can't find the nest but have liberally scattered ant killer around the front of the house. I've used 2 traps, which didn't work. I've filled the cracks between skirting board and wood floor with talc, which stopped them for several days, but now they're coming in an adjacent crack in the living room. I realise I need to tackle the nest but until I find it is there any super strength killer / deterrent, I'm getting really fed up!0

We tend to get ants every year in our living room. I just buy a cheap powder and go along under the carpet and then go outside and squirt it liberally all along the whole wall at the bottom. I usually do it again mid summer and thats it. It keeps them away from ours, with no need for expensive powders/sprays. Worth a try.0

They will be living under the concrete or the pavers up to the house and can be difficult to reach with powder.
There is a liquid solution that can be used to flood these areas but the details escape me at present,I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Nippon liquid, that's the stuff. Workers take the stuff back to the nest, and the queen eats it as well. Powders just kill the workers on the whole, so as soon as you stop using the powder, more workers turn up.
Available locally, or by the interweborderingthingummyjig, as below. It's the Nippon liquid you want, not powder, which they also make.
