The ants nest may be in the wall cavity. I had this problem each summer until I had cavity wall insulation installed."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

The only thing that works for our house is the ant bait traps which I have to have down all year in the kitchen. I also put peppermint oil down round the fridge, freezers which helps too.
Good luck they are a pain when you get them in the house.0 -

To be honest in the confines of the house they are easier
Get them outside and it's mission accomplished,;)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
I'd agree with others that the nippon liquid works well. You can buy it for a few pounds on fleabay.0

I saw a post on this forum some time ago about ants invading the house and ways to deal with them.
I have a similar problem…
Just about every year in July ants invade my living room and/or kitchen in large numbers. It always seems to happen on hot days when the flying ants emerge. I end up with a trail of ants leading the flying ants into the room and dozens of flying ants against the windows trying to escape.
I know ants don’t cause any real harm but it’s still very annoying when it’s in your kitchen and you are trying to prepare food.
I think the nest is either in the wall cavity or just outside in the gravel driveway. The ants find their way in through small holes in the cement work either above or underground. I'm guessing they emerge on the inside in the gap between the skirting board and the cement floor. It's impossible to seal the gap inside the house without completely wrecking the kitchen because it's behind the fitted kitchen cupboards. I have tried sealing the holes in the cement joints in the brickwork on the outside with acrylic sealant, but that hasn’t stopped them.
I have tried proprietary ant killer powders along the outside wall and the driveway. Even if that works as a temporary measure, they still reappear the following year.
I have ordered some borax in an attempt to get rid of the queen using a borax + sugar solution but I have my doubts about it working.
Any suggestions? (apart from dynamite or moving house).0 -
had a problem myself used a combination of Raid spray along with doff ant killer bait station, so far they have worked, the latter you can buy from B&M. Hope this helps.are you classified as human ?

We had a smaller version of that this year - a few flying ants suddenly appeared in our dining room and adjoining kitchen. Luckily just sweeping them up got rid but I then noticed a lot of activity around an airbrick outside. I think they'd made a nest inside there and it was just at flight time that they become evident.
I'm using Home Defence Ant Stop now but I think it would be better to start using it much earlier next year, to stop the colony getting started in the first place.
Once they've reached the flying off stage it's a bit late really.0 -
Had this last week, they were coming in around an older door where the sealant had degraded. I resealed it then a week later there was a a sea of ants in the house - probably hatched or whatever they do i used ant killer along the skirting left it for a few days then hoovered up no sign of any now.
Have a look outside you'll probably see them coming and going - I didpvoutput.org/intraday.jsp?id=39350&sid=359520 -
Ants don't normally live in houses so you need to find where they are coming from.0

Spring is here.. grass outside been cut.. ants are disturbed within nest.. I can't find this nest.. ants decide to find refuge, asylum and security inside my ground floor council flat.. I've been told ants don't carry diseases (I think this is true). ant powder works immediately.. as does Mopping floor to remove their pheromone trail..but only for a few days.. I'd like to know a product from the main retailers (home bargains/Wilkinsons/Argos/b+m/ (tried eBay product-which was useless) I have no pets.. but there are cats and dogs, foxes, badgers, birds and lots of wildlife here I'd prefer not to poison.. does salt work? I don't really want to kill the ants either.. but I hate making tea and having an ant run across my plate..0
