Petrol seams to scare them off, perhaps it's the sound of their mates popping on contact that does the trick

Not a good idea, due to the explosive nature of petrol.

You can get ant nematodes - microscopic organisms that kill the queen. I know that Green Gardener do them, probably other garden places do too. Stir them up in water according to the instructions on the pack, and water it in. I have no commercial interest in Green Gardner, am a satisfied customer of their slug nematodes. ;)

I have got ants coming through the skirting board in my kitchen - what is the best way to get rid of them? Powder or spray - or should I get them exterminated properly?

I'm a bit worried as this is an internal wall - will they start to move & pop out somewhere else?

Ant powder should get rid of them - we had them coming into the lounge a year ago, so followed the trail to find out exactly where they were coming in, and dosed their trail with ant powder.

There's a fair variety of stuff you can use indoors - bait stations etc. Find one that not only kills on contact but also kills when they take the stuff back to the nest. This is what I used because I had it to hand - its supposed to be non "nasty" and you can use it outdoors. Certainly seemed to clear the problem up.

  • I had Ants in the Lounge and Kitchen last year. Powder or Spray only worked for a short time. Then I tried a Bait Station. Success, they were all gone within a week and didn't return. Bait Station lasts for 3 months. Two in a pack so have one for this year if they come back. Also no smell like spray.
