Hiya folks,
Discovered this thread by accident and thought I was the only one having this bother, and so relieved to find I'm not.
Thanks to all for the tips and I'll give them a go (by the way spraying them with weedkiller does nothing, I've tried this several times as it was the nearest thing to hand when I found them crawling across my bunker (kitchen worktop)).
Now where do I get the Nippon stuff now, how much is it and in true MSE style can I use quidco, pigsback, rpoints etc etc ? :rolleyes:0 -
You can get the Nippon stuff from any DIY store. The cheapest place is usually the cheap drugstores though ( Savers, LLoyds etc)
I found ant laquer the best for getting rid of ants fast. The gel takes ages to get rid of the ants ( and does not work if there are other sources of food).
With the laquer, they die if they walk over it ( it puts an invisible film onto anything you spray it on). It lasts for months too.0 -
We had them a while back in our extension we always use
RAID Crack and Crevice, it is a foam, with a long straw type nozzle on, that you can put under skirting boards, and in paving slab joins. effec tive for 4 months it says on the can, but usually we only treat each area once Bargain Homes sold it last year for 99p, much cheaper than the supermarketsSam:happylove0 -
Ants I can deal but again this morning there was a silver snail trail across the living room carpet - I dont know wether its a snail or a slug or how they get in. They could even be eggs on the pads of the cats. Most of the plants are outside now so its not something in the potting compost.
Last year I put a line of the blue snail beads at the back of the fridge which is an outside wall and this seemed to work.
You never see them though, just the trails across the kitchen
Mary
PS Yes it is time the carpet went and the laminate came in but that means getting a man in and a dry day when the sofas can go out in the garden, two things that can never happen :rotfl:“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove. Every day will allow you, --will invite you to add something to the pleasure of others, --or to diminish something of their pains.”0 -
I cannot believe that i have ants in the washing machine!!, we have tried cleaning thru with a bleach rinse & the limescale remover stuff, but nothing's working!!!!.
They are constantly in the detergent section & today were all in the wash, i really don't know what to do.
Any advice is much appreciated, thanks in advanceNo one said it was gonna be easy!0 -
Ants have been getting into the house for the last 2 weeks, I have put down Ant powder right along the wall of the house to where we see the ants (but don't see many outside).
They seem to come from under the kitchen unit/laminate floor/skirting but can't see where from.
I haven't tried anything else apart from powder so just asking if there are any good devices available.
Thanks
Avoid the powder, it is messy and if you have pets and it breaths any of the dust it can give them brain damage or possibly kill them (a vet told me this)
Wilko do a product called Dethlac, it is brilliant and is in spray form :T It puts a clear film which is effective outside even when wet and hasn't stained or damaged my carpet or skirting board.
I have used this for 3 years and once I do my usual yearly spray, I never have another problem all summer. Definately the best product I have ever used :T
Hope this helps.0 -

Hi, Nippon is good, and there is also one you leave outside to destroy the nest.
I had a similar problem once that was driving me mad - eventually tracked teh little b*****s with the use of a torch on the kitchen floor! They were coming under the door, round the edge and under the freezer where they were drinking water off the condensor!!! Insulating foam finally stopped that one!0 -
We have a problem with ants too, infact my dad got bitten on Friday and went in to anaphlactic shock, his face arms and legs all swelled up and he ended up overnight in hospital.
We have powder all round the external walls, spraying inside and they still come in. really annoying us now. Our usual ant man has moved to France in the last monh so he cant come round any more to sort it out.0
