I think that if there are family facilities then families should use them. Simple as that.
I also think it is inappropriate for all involved.0 -
Why did so many mse-ers thank the totally inaccurate post from Counting_Pennies? The one that is practically the opposite of everything I said.......0

Her point is that there are dedicated FAMILY rooms. Why would any one with mixed sex family NOT use the dedicated rooms is my question....
I am a mother with an 8 yr old boy. I would not want him seeing lots of naked women and teen girls. It is inappropriate at his age I am afraid and those who say it isn't are wrong (sorry!) At 8yrs, children need to learn a healthy respect for the privacy of others and their own naked bodies. Yes, it is fine for them to know what a naked member of the opposite sex looks like.... but it is not necessary for them to see it on a regular basis when there is a alternative. Also, although I don't mind getting changed in front of MY 8 yr old.. I certainly wouldn't want to get changed in front of anyone ELSE's 8 yr old!!!!! God, i get enough "Why is your tummy SOOO flabby?" off my OWN child LOL... wouldnt want others asking
^^^ This.
Where family rooms are available, the mothers of these boys are being rude and inconsiderate by not using them. It's not just teenage girls who are body sensitive..0 -

At weekends and afterschool, they often bring their children. When I am in the communal womens change & shower area, do you think it's appropriate that the boys I have contact with, either in my class or in another, are getting changed & showered in the same area as myself? I don't.
I think it's a shame we're not more open about nudity and accepting of a range of body sizes and shapes but that's not where our society is at the moment.
For you, in your position as a teacher, I would be concerned that pictures of you getting changed would be taken using a mobile and spread around the school.0 -
Maybe because they think that if you're the one with a problem then you should be the one to change your behaviour.
I can't see anything wrong with young kids being in the women's changing-room, from either the women's or the children's POV but you obviously do.0 -

I shower in my cossie - and use big bath sheets and am careful/fast. You can get some big poncho style changing towels.
You've no chance of getting the kids moved, whole world revolves around them doing what they/their mums want these days.
And/or, I'd watch them when I was in the pool ..... and give them 20-30 minutes to get clear before I went into the changing area.
Im not mega shy, I would happily get changed in front of other females & young male children (I think up to 5 is probably acceptable).
If there were no family facilities I wouldnt say anything, but there are - she just likes to chat.....
Im not going to start sewing towels together or hang about waiting for her to go - I cant do that I would be late for my lesson.
She can be in there half an hour easily anyway!0 -

I dont think 8 is a young kid, its a school boy.0 -

It is a possibility. They only have to mention it to an older child and have the seed sown.0 -

okay - if thats the concern for the teacher, and the kids are only 6 and 7 so would probably be seen as perfectly acceptable for them to be in the female changing rooms with their mum if theres no other facilities they could use, whats the teacher supposed to do?
eta - I'm a bit surprised that this would be a concern to be honest - and surely theres the same opportunity for older girls at the school to take photos of the teacher, and the girls in the changing rooms are there perfectly legitimately?0
