children in communal changing rooms

Imho 8 is too young a cut off for boys to be going into the men's changing rooms without parental supervision, but as a single parent of 2 boys, if my local baths had a family area, I would use it.
Luckily my local baths has cubicles, so we tend to go in 1 each.0 -

My son is 7 and sometimes when I take him to his swimming lesson there are teenage girls just coming out as we go in and as they screamed the first time he went in I now feel I have to make him wait outside alone. I do tell them that they need to hurry up though cos I won't let him be late for his lesson cos of them.Have a Bsc Hons open degree from the Open University 2015 :j:D:eek::T0

I think the problem is compounded that the time before last, her & her son were dried & changed when I got there, but she was chatting away to her friend & the boy was just stood there, but not busy getting dressed.
She chats for ages & makes no efforts to move on.0 -

Yes - I also feel the teenage girls must feel really strange about it.
Thing is shes a chatterbox & likes to hang out & chat, thats why she doesn't use the dedicated family cubicles.0 -
I think eight's far too old, both for the sake of the other female swimmers and for the boys themselves. When there are family rooms available it's totally unnecessary.0

Granted I have never been to a swimming pool in the UK, but is it really the case that people are stripping naked in communal changing areas?? Are there no individual changing cubicles?
As for the showers, don't people just shower quickly with their swimming costume on then shower properly at home later? That's the way I've always thought it worked! I never thought people just showered naked in front of everyone. I'm actually astonished!0 -

me too - I've never been in a public swimming pool where folk stripped naked to use the communal showers there , and although our local pools have got communal changing areas, there are also cubicles in each area to use as well.0 -

There are two private cubicles in the changing room, but you can never get in them, they always have shy teenage girls cueing up to use them.
I will wear my cozzie if im in the communal shower, but not if I get into the small private one. But many of the ladies do strip off to shower & we all have to get naked to actually get into or out of our cozzies.0 -

Regardless of whether the ladies shower naked or not, you have to strip to get into your cozzie & to get out of it & dried.0
