Any one fancy joining me on a scoff the cupboards in September although I know I shamelessly stole this idea from EH I'm sure she doesn't mind too much?

    :hello::hello::hello:
Always up for a good store cupboard challenge!
We (OH & myself) inadvertantly joined in your challenge over the weekend, as we returned from holibobs & could not face the shops!
The freezer badly needs a defrost so this month we'll need to eat it bare! All those yellow & red sticker bargains will have to go! Amazing what I'll buy if it's a bargain - all kinds of weird and wonderful things! - reduced roasts galore!
Saturday - bf included toasted baguette & dinner was plain roast pork & assorted bottom of the fridge veggies.
Sunday - bf included more of those frozen baguette pieces & dinner was a dolled up slow roast lamb shoulder with the last of the potatoes & onions
Monday - bf was porridge for him, granola for me & dinner bargain cheeseburgers & veggie springrolls
OH has also been snacking on various crackers that have been lurking in the cupboard! good of him to make do with what we've got ;)
(I'll have to admit that we did buy a few bits of fresh fruit & veg yesterday - couldn't bear the thought of only canned or frozen.)
Tonight will have to be something easy for dinner as it's first day back at work for both of us! - Spied some leftover veggie stirfry in the freezer this morning so might whip up some fresh thai rice to go with it!
Wonder if we will be able to eat something from the freezer every day for the rest of the month! - Might take a little planning & a list or two to make it a reality!!!
    4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! (24 OCT 2016)
(With heartfelt thanks to those who have gone before us & their indubitable generosity.)
    ...and now I have a mortgage! (23 AUG 2021)
New projection - 14 YEARS 10 MONTHS LEFT OF 20 YEARS (reduced by 15 mths)
Psst...I may have started a diary!
  • Hey there RT - how exciting a fellow storecupboard forager.

:0 sounds like we shop in a similar manner?

I think between us I'm sure we'll eat out the freezers every day of the month. I'm liking the sounds of your menus!

    :)

Today my menu has comprised thus

Brekkie - Raw porridge with coconut, nuts and hazelnut milk
Two pieces of cardboard (ryvita) for my second brekkie
Lunch - HM meat balls (badly behaved b/burgers) sauce and tatties (left over from the other day) and some HG roasted tomatoes - an orange (which I don't know why I buy as I don't like them 'raw'
Tea - HM meatballs and sushi rice with some salad
    Second tea as yet undecided.

I do double up on my meals.

    :)

So far no spends either - but flour is a must.

I wonder if I can blag some from old/bean factory work?

    Goodluck to all of us.

And, I've done a mile so far today - off to do more in a bit on the way to the learning factory where I have to check in on a few bits.

    :)

    Food challenge Day 3

    Well - :j

The 'beef balls' with lots of free veggies thrown in netted 6 portions in the end - so that's a result, as the rice and veggies were free. 120p/6=20p each. :money:

And shamelessly copying greying here's a photo
    709a2dbf-d67f-4488-9c29-a3ff066585a5.jpg

Work plots (the ones lurking in the back of the tunnels, we don't talk about shhh) harvested...........
    Beets and tops for spinach
    Cucumbers
    MORE courgettes :rotfl:
MORE tomatoes - another pound and a half
    Carrots

    Outside plots netted
Tatties and onions. :T and I've another plot double the size to dig tatties from - so we SHOULD be sorted all month

Supermarket - we'll heres a funny thing. Not sure what to do here.

Found a £5 and a 50p voucher on the fridge for local large supermarket. (in date)

    So bought reduced fruit -
    Pineapple - 45p
    Grapes - 90p
    Kiwi's x 5 - 9p ea
    Loo cleaner
Fabric softener own eco brand (we dry indoors so they helps keep it smelling fresh)
    Woofle food

And the FLOUR we actually went in for :rotfl::rotfl:

It came to £5.17 minus the voucher :money:which I didn't know we had - bit like finding a fiver :)

But, I had to put 17p on my card as I'm rubbish at adding up and the machine wouldn't let me use the 50p one.

    ##So here's my dilemma.~~

Our normal budget is for £200 a month food/pets/cleaning/toiletries/etc

This month is £50 which is fair enough the doggies also have to eat.

So do I deduct 5.17 from my £50 challenge money

    Or just 17p:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I'm now cooking for tomorrow tonight (18p pie :money:) and I've frozen the rest of the beef balls and a spare portion of rice.

    :money:

:T I just swapped a couple courgettes for six lovely eggs too :T

Seems deeply sensible to me :)

    Thanks L

I can report the 18p pie is edible.
(Puff pastry, free sliced tatties, cheese (ex-birthday), free onions and a bit left over ham)

Too edible in fact - DS is in for another portion.

I thought this experiment was supposed to be moneysaving...................:rotfl:

    Morning all - :)

Today - a wee list from me.

    Working
Walking 5 miles if I can (free exercise) only did 3 yesterday
    ALL meals from stores
NSD if I can - don't need anything
Find the elusive carton of hazelnut milk - I know its here somewhere
Sort out a food waste quiz and find a prize
Wedding related admin - 47 days to got
Update food challenge blog 0.17/£50 to go
Try and keep sane and calm at work :)
    Clean the house a bit
Make up some of the dried coconut milk and put it in the fridge and see if its palatable :money:
Work out a plan for tomorrows meals :)

    I hope you're all good!

As you may or may not know (depending on how often I'mv mentioned it) we're marrying on a tight budget (well tight for me) and doing most of it ourselves food/entertainment/etc.

We don't need pressies and folks keep asking and we don't want money - so I'm wondering about gifts and thought I'd run it by you all. I've contacted a national wholesaler and they seem to think it might be easy for me to set up an online account with them to provide........

The stripey 'Edible Wedding Woodland' - what do you all think?

    Crazy?

    or very

    - we're moving in together next year (after 10 years apart) and in the new house garden I want an 'edible woodland' be nice to think friends have contributed to this so I'm enquiring about setting up a wholesale account with a reputable tree firm I know :money: very MSE as the trees start from about 40p - and any extra money/trees we end up with we're donating to a community woodland

Given the prices of things in garden centres pays to be savvy and get more trees for your money. And rather cynically it does mean I can choose the species and provenance I want.;)

I like the idea of that - we've got so much stuff as we're both very old - so don't NEED anything and I want to avoid unnecessary spends for folks in the ethos of our 'no waste wedding'.:A

I Just need to confirm with them they'll do it (you know accept other peoples money before its spent) and see how easy and online account is for them to administer and us to share.

    Have a good un.

Oh definitely! Setting up an account with a tree nursery sounds brilliant - its natural that people want to give you wedding presents, its also natural that you don't want **stuff* - so let people contribute to the things you do want. I've certainly gone online and logged in to a place like Debenham's to find a wedding gift list for a wedding I'm going to.

Loving the progress of the storecupboard/freezer challenge :) with RT too **waves** :) and I vote for the 17p, not the £5.17 too :rotfl:

Just a thought - if the nursery *doesn't* accept other people's money into an account - set up an online pot in one of your own accounts, and just get people to send the money to you. I've done that too - the French wedding I went to last year, they were already set up with their stuff, well paid jobs in their early 30s, so they asked for contributions to their honeymoon account, and thats what I did. Simples :j

Brilliant idea re trees as people know your ethics, and saves having 20 toasters.

    I to vote for 17p.
Love the tree idea and if it can't be set up at the place a personal account that they can pay in to sounds good
