The other side of the coin is that London pay can be higher and jobs easier to find than in many cities. She needs a shark detector though.

The one that enables you to identify the flat on Gumtree that is being "let out" by someone who managed to get an extra key cut or even by the existing tenant who takes deposits from 10 people and then does a runner.

Or realise what is happening when the new LL suggests that they need evidence they you have enough money to pay the rent and asks you to send your sister/brother the money via Western Union and scan the receipt to prove your financial worth? 'Cos they are overseas at the moment.

And given the antics of most letting agents, the one that knows basic tenancy law.

Most big cities have sharks but sticking with university approved accommodation helps. Hardly only applicable only to London though most cities have similar issues.

Got another meeting with the ex Wednesday night to review the options with the financial settlement. She wants to rent the house out and use the money to pay the rent on a place on the coast near her parents. I had pointed out that as it’s a joint asset that we should share the proceeds. She couldn’t believe I could suggest something so unreasonable as there is 3 of them and she needed to provide a home for our family.

I proposed that I was looking for a mortgage to buy her out of her share. I’ve been with my bank a while so thought it would be worth seeing what they’d lend to me. Very long process, went through 90 minute discussion with them collecting all my financial information including all debts and expenditure details to assess properly my ability to pay back.

They were only prepared to lend me £97K due to the credit card debt at £16K and the 0% ending soon. For 50/50 share of the house I need £150K. I am trying a few other sources through IFA.

So will have to see what she proposes and hopefully we can agree without more solicitors involved creating more costs for no benefit. If we can agree next step is mediation.

Meanwhile my tenancy finishes on the 25 July so I need to be out by then, not sure where I’m going but need to work it out as only 2 weeks away…

It appears so; even the children. No thought of the possibility that they might ever want to live with dad?

Sorry JackRS, that sounds mean but I guess they were just told what her plans were for them and have gone along with it?

Not as such but she doesn't see why i can't continue to provide for her and why I should have the majority of my income.

I am sorry thing are still dragging along for you Jack.

I really do think your ex requires a reality check, but how that is achievable I don't really know.

I sincerely hope your meeting with her will give you some peace and that you will find a solution to your living arrangements.

You deserve a medal for your integrity and patience.
