storage heaters/electric central heating or gas?

Also can I just ask, does that mean there is going to be no heat on in the house until we get up in the morning?
If so how do I get it to release in the mornings when we wake up and how long will it take
Also how long does it last? Can it be on slow release all day or is there no such thing? Boost 2 someone has put turn up to 9!! to release all the stored heat am I right in thinking that this is what is going to keep the house warm throughout the night and why turn to 9, that is the input not the output???!!!
Am sorry if I sound stupid, just never had this before
Thanks again0 -
Have you tried any comparison sites? Of the companies that have increased their rates, Scottish Power has a night rate of 5.027p inc. VAT, however it's the overall package that is important.
I have been on moneysupermarket.com and it is showing that British Gas is the best one there overnight rate is 4.95p inc VAT
Rate 1 is 22.19p and rate 2 is 10.15p but am not sure what is rate 1 and rate 2 and what applies to them
rate 1 is up to 500kwh0 -
Ok BG are quite high with there daily rates
EBico have come up with 14.66p daily rate with a night rate of 5.23p
NO standard charge so I think that they overall cheaper package is with them!!
Is any one with them?

Dont worry too much about the heater settings too much, set the input to about 7, and the output to 2 or 3 and this will give you a good setting to start with.
When it gets colder then turn your input to 8 or 9, I only open (output) the lounge heater in the evenings, if you forget to close it down the heater will close it for you.tashamatthews wrote: »Also can I just ask, does that mean there is going to be no heat on in the house until we get up in the morning?
No, they charge up over night, so your house will warm up during the night.

Your house will be nice and warm when you get up, no need to do anything!
Also how long does it last? Can it be on slow release all day or is there no such thing? Yes it will do this unless you turn the output (boost) to a high setting

Read post 319, the one before your first post in this thread
I leave my heaters on (boost) 2-3 and only turn to 9 when its really cold

"tasha", you should consider taking some meter readings same time every day for both normal and low (E7) meters. Do this for at least a week and get a basic understanding of what you are using on each tariff.
Otherwise you may be in for a SHOCK.
Example, a 3 kw storage heater on for 7 hours of the night could be costing you around a £ a night.
When you have the weekly or monthly kwh consumed, you can then decide which tariff is going to cost you £££££'s or ££££'s.0 -

Thankyou I think that I am getting there finally
Now one last question I have another dial on the front of the heater numbered 1 - 7 and below it 3 heatwaves and then an orange illuminated light!! What is this for??
I have set my output boost on 3 or should this stay on 1 and the one on the front be to between 2- 3 and my input is between 6 & 7
Thanks again0 -
Could I ask do you all have night storage heaters aswell??
I also have a water tank and I was wondering if anyone on here could tell me what there monthly electric bills are with water tank and econ 7 heating if you do not mind
Thankyou0 -
If you have a CXL heater it would appear it has a convector heater built in.
I don't own one of these my self but if you look on the heater it should have a switch somewhere. if you flick it does the orange light glow, and the extra heat come from the heater?
My electric bills are £110 with scottish power. 3 bed terrace 1930's pretty draughty at times.Know the difference between what you WANT and what you NEED. :T0 -
To Tashamatthews,
You poor girl - you were dropped in it weren't you! Only just read your postings as been away. I have been running on E7 for 32 yrs and it does become a way of life. Like others on this thread I have automatic reactions and don't find it particularly difficult. You seem to be masrerin he rads but please, please go out and get some timers - Ikea do very cheap ones, but they aren't too dear in most cheap outlets. Plug in washer/drier/any other electricals on night time settings. I don't know what facilities you have, but in bad weather I hang laundry on an airer and have a 0.75 oil-filled read on a timer to dry overnight. The hot water is more of a problem to you at the moment, but try to fir a larger, better insulated tank when you can afford it. We used to have an over sink water heater in the kitchen for instant use - it does only heat what you use, as does an electric shower. Now we have solar with immersion back-up. Otherwise train the kids - and blokes, to keep doors closed. Don't tear your hair out, learn to live with it and make it work for you.I am looking into economy 10 at present, though, for that evening back-up, but only because we are selling soon and other people will be like you. It comes on in the afternon as well.
Good luck
