I've got a foam topper and it's brilliant, but I know my parents got a full foam mattress and just love it. When I can afford it, I definitely want to go full foam :)

I have one and it is the best purchase we ever made, it really helps the back ache, it is firm, perfect nights sleep, expensive but a mattress has a ten year life span so it is an investment and it really is worthwhile:D

I love mine but it was something I was very indecisive about buying. I stayed over at my friends house in the end and she had a memory foam mattress, I suffer with Hypermobility Syndrome so my joints always creak and crack in a morning but when i got out of her bed I felt wonderful.
I felt so good I went out and bought the exact same mattress the following day and I never looked back.

I don't find it too hot and its very supportive. The only downside for me is that sometimes I lie on my hand until its dead and because it sinks into the foam I don't necessarily realise, because of my HMS this then means its easier for me to dislocate fingers and I have had occasions where I've woken up and had to pop my fingers back in when I get out of bed. Obviously thats due to my condition though lol

I think a mattress / bed is one of the top priorites for spending money on. You spend a significant portion of your life on it, and a bad sleeping environment ruins lots of things.

We would love to do this, but a mattress is one of the things we can never agree on. We have been shopping for one several times, and never like the same ones.

I love the idea of memory foam (apart from I don't think you can use an electric blanket with them? And I would be lost without that in the cold months of the year) but when we tried one dh hates the feeling of moving after he was lying down...the bit when you sink a bit further. The loveliest mattress I tried was excessively soft with an extra feather topper too. It felt like lying on a cloud, and I have rarely felt to comfortable, for the half hour or so we lay on it in the shop. Dh likes a firm mattress.

    .

In your position I would get 2 separate beds as being comfortable in bed is too important.

Back to the OP's question, I have had an original Tempur mattress (they now do other variations which I found too soft) for nearly 10 years and love it. It took a few days getting used to it and I was in a bit of pain, but it was worth it. It does get hot, but I feel cold in bed so it is an advantage for me.

We tend to sleep in a knot with each other when he is here. We have had two singles fastened together before, but it just doesn't suit us. :o

ATM we have a mattress that was barely used from my parents' house before they separated.

I keep working on the memory foam idea with dh though.

I don't know, electric blankets spook me anyway. Can't get the idea of being fried in my sleep out of my mind, which isn't conducive to a good night's rest.

I've got a memory foam bed and love it. It does get hot however, l've noticed it's only when l lay in or go in a really deep sleep, took a bit of getting used to though, l used to get the sweats every night. I'd still say go for it, they are soooo comfortable.

    Happy moneysaving all.
  • Thanks everyone, didnt know it was going to be so difficult to choose a mattress, we did go into bensons at the weekend and they only had the one full foam one, the ones we have seen online do not deliver to Northern Ireland, so we may have to go for the foam and pocket spring.

pinkypants: I would love a waterbed but my boyfriend doesnt like the idea of them and I think they might be a bit too expensive for us as well.

Depends, frying when you have no heating counts as a good dream :D
