Full memory foam mattress?

Hello everyone, didnt really have a clue where to post this so I hope its ok here..

Im wondering if anyone here has ever had a full memory foam mattress?

Our mattress is getting on a bit now and we are looking around for a new one, the one we have now is a medium-firm half pocket sprung half memory foam.

We were thinking about maybe trying a full memory foam but people keep trying to put us off saying they get very warm during the night, and also its hard to turn around during the night because you sink into them too much, is this true?

Also, is there a noticeable difference between the softest and the medium firmness? I really hate a firm mattress so dont really want to get one that will be too firm.

Thanks.

  • I have a full memory foam mattress and I love it! You do sink into them a bit but not so much that you can't turn over with ease if you want to...although I've found that I toss and turn much less on the memory foam than on a conventional mattress (probably because your weight is more evenly distributed so you don't get pressure points which become uncomfortable).

I wouldn't dream of going back to a conventional mattress and find them quite uncomfortable by comparison when I go to hotels etc.

on two different beds I have a full memory foam mattress and a mattress topper on a sprung mattress (cos the mattress is a bit elderly - but not kaput).
personally, I prefer the mattress topper, my OH loves the full mattress. saying that - the full mattress IS comfortable and the Egyptian cotton sheet seems to stop it getting too warm. but we bought a firmer memory foam mattress and the other bed is .............softer!

    Browneyedbazzi,

    What mattress do you have?

Because I'm in the trade and I've only ever known of 1 full memory foam mattress on the market and the suppliers told me that it didn't sell very well.

From my understanding memory foam NEEDS a foundation base to it of some kind, be it another type of foam or springs. Memory foam on it's own doesn't really support anything and if you sat on it, it would compress some much you'd be sat on the bed base with about an inch of foam all squashed up.

Octospring sell a memory foam mattress where the springs are made with of foam. But looking on their website it doesn't say that they are made of memory foam.

  • We've got one, and I really like it. I don't find it too warm at all, nor does it trap me.

Tempur mattresses are amazing. Slept on one once, would love to splash out on one :)

  • I think a mattress / bed is one of the top priorites for spending money on. You spend a significant portion of your life on it, and a bad sleeping environment ruins lots of things.

  • DD has scoliosis and is in quite a lot of pain with her back. I got her a memory foam topper, just a cheap one and when she stayed over at the weekend, she said it was actually her best night's sleep since she moved in with her dad.

Who, incidentally, has just gone and bought her a new mattress - with a memory foam top to it.

I think they're a bit marmite - people seem to love them or hate them. Problem is, it's difficult to trial a mattress for a few weeks, and they're not a cheap purchase so if you find you don't like it, you've shelled out a lot for nothing.

None of this is helping, is it? :D

We've got a Tempur mattress. Cost a bl00dy fortune but it's really comfortable. I think that there are cheaper brands available now, but Tempur was the first.

I've also had scoliosis surgery and we got the mattress when I was pregnant with first-born, because I was getting a lot of back pain. The firmness takes a bit of getting used to but it definitely is more supportive. It's also worth getting the memory foam pillows as well.

    Deb,

If you really want a very nice comfortable supportive and not hot bed then go for a waterbed. Ok not cheap but, never need turning, never sag, thermosaticly controlled temperature. Supports the body like a glove. Top cover comes off for washing. They are brilliant.
