I bought a half spring half memory foam mattress cost £400 in a sale, its great love it, I suffer back problems and used to dread going to bed at night, but since I got this one my back is not as bad in the morning, best £400 I spent!
Go for one that you can afford it will be your best purchase. Xi came into the world with nothing, and guess what? i still have it!!!:p0 -
I have the same dilemma, stick to my trusty 2500 sprung mattress & base with electric blanket or dump the lot & get a memory foam one?, decisions decisions! No one said it was gonna be easy!0

I have a Tempur which I find fab - I have had spinal surgery and it has made a huge difference to how I feel when I get up in the morning.
I did look at Ergoflex mattresses too - they have very good reviews and are a lot cheaper but I couldnt find any to test - I went into Dreams and they sell Tempur and I could test it out so I bought one of those.0 -

pinkypants: I would love a waterbed but my boyfriend doesnt like the idea of them and I think they might be a bit too expensive for us as well.
Avoid places like Bensons would be my advice, you will have local independent bed stores which are a lot better with advice and more often than not a lot cheaper as well.

We have one. We ensured we ordered a very firm one because that's what we like. Try a few of different types to ensure you buy the one which suits you the best.0

We have a tempur, if you get hot you can uses a lighter weight duvet.
The problem we have is if we go away for more than a few days the bed get really hard again for one night.
Another advantage of the tempur is you don't feel each other move.
we have a vi-spring on the spare bed and that gets good reviews. whe nthe tempur goes we will probably swap to that one. we got them in a sale with the intention they should see us out.
Another option to look at if you like the Electric blanket is a water bed they can be heated to just right.0 -
We had one and absolutely hated it and bought a new mattress.
I fidget a lot during the night and found it quite difficult to turn so I'd end up waking up to turn (rather than turning naturally in my sleep if that makes sense).
I also found that I got really hot during the night.
Another thing is that the mattress doesn't absorb much weight and your bed frame then has to take the strain (cue broken bed frame). We have a horrible habit of jumping on the bed onto our knees and neither of us are slim. The mattress didn't absorb much of the impact and the bed frame had to do it. With our new mattress it's not a problem because it has springs and absorbs the impact.
So yeah - in short I hated it. But I'm sure like anything you'll have people that love it and people that hate it

Im wondering if anyone here has ever had a full memory foam mattress?
Our mattress is getting on a bit now and we are looking around for a new one, the one we have now is a medium-firm half pocket sprung half memory foam.
We were thinking about maybe trying a full memory foam but people keep trying to put us off saying they get very warm during the night, and also its hard to turn around during the night because you sink into them too much, is this true?
Also, is there a noticeable difference between the softest and the medium firmness? I really hate a firm mattress so dont really want to get one that will be too firm.
Thanks.
Full memory foam mattresses don't exist, although they may be dscribed as 'full foam'. They have a layer of memory foam on top of a layer of reflex foam. There have been 1000's of posts by a previous forum member called Tim Deegan, giving loads of advice. And he alo has his own website called mattress advice, or something like that. Anyway I have gleaned loads of knowledge from his posts and website, which helped prevent me from repeating previous mistakes.0
