I've never seen the attraction myself.

It doesn't seem to be a purely male thing though. Google gives 5,740,000 hits for "male stripper" and I can't believe that they are all catering for homosexual men.

Not really a stripper, but I did see a TV show about male escorts, and I have to say I didn't find them in the slightest bit attractive. They just exuded an air of arrogance. They catered for women though.

    Don't forget the Chippendales!

    Thank You shegirl.

Strange that I got attacked from all quarters for saying it, but a female saying the same thing gets away scott free? Double standards on this thread.

I do find woman taking their clothes off and gyrating about provocatively to strangers quite degrading and demeaning to women as a whole

You're entitled to your opinion, of course. However, when you and others continually bang on about how sex work is inherently degrading and demeaning, and how sex workers are women (always women, no mention of the large number of male sex workers) who have no self respect and/or are abuse victims, what effect do you think that has on those who have chosen this type of work? Don't you think they get a bit sick and tired of being told what they are and what they think by high-minded puritans?

Well, I can assure you, they do.

Sadly true. The prejudice that sex workers face is real. See my last post.

A lot of work is demeaning and degrading. You're always selling a part of yourself for something. My problem with strip clubs is that a lot of the workers are on 0 hours contracts with no job security. Like much of the hospitality industry.

I work in IT - trust me, I'd take a demeaning and degrading sex industry over the demeaning, degrading, underpaid dogsbody career that I'm in right now.

As for the thread, it goes like this.

    1. Guy makes relatively silly but ultimately throwaway comment not realising it would get the missus's back up.
    2. Missus gets her back up.
    3. Guy thinks 'wow, that escalated quickly' and apologises now safe in the knowledge that what he did was silly, and will most likely never do it again.
    4. Female internet hit squad declare that this man is the spawn of satan and the only thing that will remedy the situation is to remove his genitalia and/or murder him by cutting his body into small pieces and then mailing these pieces across the world. The correct resolution is certainly not to just talk about it like adults and explain the perspective that each part has of the situation before saying 'I apologise and respect you' in the way that the husband has done.
    5. MSE's 'Woman's Own' then decide to rant about strip clubs despite it being completely irrelevant to the subject.
    6. Wootball decides that most of you have made yourselves look really stupid and posts a reply to tell you so, before leaving the thread chuckling at how stupid you look, never to return to it.

    Agreed!

These forums are turning more and more into Mumsnet everyday (shudder), where all men are evil, no matter what they do.
